William J. Ashton

April 29, 1961-February 3, 2018

Formerly of Highland Falls

William J. Ashton entered into eternal rest at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, on Feb. 3,. As an active member of Crossroads Church in Middletown, Bill participated in studies of the Holy Bible, and proclaimed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Bill, formerly of Highland Falls, studied computer language and accounting at Orange County Community College. He was employed for many years at the Times Herald Record as a machine operator, placing special sections in the newspaper, and stuffing envelopes with bills for advertisers.

Bill was very much a family man. He is survived by his mother Estella of Highland Falls; sister Marianne Murray and husband Keith, and their daughter Hannah, of Port Jervis; cousins David Kelsey and wife, Chris, of New Hartford,  Warren Rice and wife Margaret, of Arizona, and Carolyn Sine, of West Virginia.

He was predeceased by his father, John Ashton.

A memorial service will be held at Crossroads Church, 175 County Route 78, Middletown, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17. The Reverend David Billings will officiate. Memorial contributions may be sent to the church in William’s name.

Arrangements are under the direction of Morse Funeral Home Inc., Middletown.

William W. Ball

September 2, 1926-February 10, 2018

Formerly of Cornwall

William W. Ball of New Windsor, a former longtime resident of Cornwall, entered into rest at his home on Saturday, Feb. 10.  He was 91.

The son of the late Clarence and Bessie Wilson Ball, he was born on Sept. 2, 1926 in the little house near the end of Mailler Ave. in Cornwall. Bill was a retired Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.  He was a member of the USN Armed Guard of WWII, the American Legion Post 1796, and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Bill married Jean DuBois of Washingtonville, in 1948.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Jean, at home; his son, Allan Ball and his wife Mickey; his grandchildren: Tracy Hecht and her husband Scott; Jaimie H. Ball; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Holly Hecht.  He was predeceased by his son, William Ball, Jr., sister Elsie Garstka and nephew Joseph Garstka.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service with military honors took place on Feb. 14 at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor.

Arrangements are under the direction of James F. Lulves Funeral Home.

Virginia “Ginny” A. Casaccio

November 21, 1932-February 9, 2018

New Windsor

Virginia “Ginny” A. Casaccio, of New Windsor entered into eternal rest on Feb. 9, at Focus Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Utica. She was 85. She was a former resident of Cornwall.

The daughter of the late Vito Rosselli and Louise (Navaro) Rosselli, Ginny was born on November 21, 1932 in Manhattan, NY.  She was predeceased by her husband Paul Casaccio on May 2, 2017.

Ginny was the co-owner of Newburgh Window Shop along with her husband for many years. They were so blessed to be best friends, build a successful business and have a wonderful life together.

Ginny is survived by her children, Linda Koch and Donna Racanelli; grandchildren, Allison (Michael) O’Sullivan, Louis (Kimberly) Racanelli and Lauren Racanelli; four great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Natalie and Timothy O’Sullivan of Sandy Hook, Conn. and Rylee Racanelli of Newburgh;  her brother: Al Rosselli and wife, Peggy of Long Island, along with many other dear nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-on-Hudson.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. following visitation.  Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

Memorial contributions in Ginny’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Ste. 203, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

John Irving Woodruff

July 6, 1925-February 7, 2018

Formerly of Cornwall-on-Hudson

John Irving Woodruff, 92, of Scarborough, Maine, passed away in Scarborough on Feb. 7.

John was born July 6, 1925 in Highland Falls, to John J. and Gertrude M. (Vanderburg) Woodruff.  He graduated from Cornwall-on-Hudson High School in 1943 and was accepted into the Naval Aviation Program in August of that year, serving during World War II.  He joined the Army Reserves in 1955 and retired in 1980 as a colonel.

In 1946, John married Joyce C. Armitage.  They had two children, son Barry and daughter Susan.

John retired from the United States Military Academy at West Point, as the Deputy Director of Admissions.

He was active in many organizations and activities in Cornwall and Orange County.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, son Barry and his wife Kim of Vancouver, WA, daughter Susan Pons of Scarborough, and grandchildren: Adam, Eric, Julia and husband Brian, and Laura.  He was predeceased by his son-in-law Russell Pons.

Internment will take place in the spring in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Date to be determined.

Patricia M. Woodruff

March 27, 1938– February 7, 2018

Cornwall

Patricia M. Woodruff, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Feb. 7 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 79 years old.

The daughter of the late Carmine Abbatiello and Theresa (Connolly) Abbatiello,  she was born on March 27, 1938 in Yonkers.

Patricia was retired after working as a contracting officer for the United States Military Academy at West Point.  Because of her life-long love of learning and her participation in many adult education programs, she received many awards during her time at West Point.

Patricia was the proprietor and owner of Carnival of Gifts in Highland Falls for many years.  She had a passion for gardening and pottery and shared her talent with many.  Her love also extended beyond her human family to her four-legged friends.

Patricia is survived by her adoring sisters Carol A. Wilkinson of Poughkeepsie, and Marcia J. Fraleigh and her husband Patrick of Poughkeepsie; and many nieces and nephews.

Her family received visitors on Feb. 11 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held at on Feb. 12 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
