Gloria C. Brisman

Gloria C. Brisman passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10 in her home. She was 87.
Daughter of the late Julius Dubrin and Sadie Wershba Dubrin, Gloria was born May 20, 1930 in Brooklyn. Gloria was the widow of Jerome I. Brisman. She was the manager of the tour division for West Point Tours, Inc. in Vails Gate.
Gloria leaves behind the tree of family and children that she and her beloved husband Jerry grew. She will be missed by her daughter Judith Brisman; her three sons Jeffrey, Robert and Jay and their wives Pamela, Karen and Elizabeth; her nine grandchildren whom she adored; and her three great-grandchildren whom she wished to know longer.
Gloria was a quiet force in the family-owned West Point Tours Bus Company. She founded the company tour guide business, designed the business logo and became the marketing and advertising director, supporting the company to become the outstanding tour guide service that it is today. Perhaps as important, she was a steady, supportive “mother” to generations of tour guides, with whom she shared years of laughter, stories and warmth. Gloria was also an inspired founder of the “Ice Cream Shoppe” in Highland Falls, where to this day West Pointers still meet.
But Gloria always felt like her greatest accomplishment was her family. She created a home that was always open to others, filled with laughter and the loving chaos of holidays and generations of children.
A Chapel Service was celebrated on January 18 at Old Cadet Chapel in West Point. Interment followed in West Point Cemetery. Donations may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc., 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Patrick F. Carton

Patrick F. Carton, of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 13 surrounded by his family. He was 87.
Son of the late John J. Carton and Sarah (McCullough) Carton, Patrick was born on June 25, 1930 in New York City.
Patrick was a man of great faith. He loved God. He loved his wife and his family beyond measure. His passing is heralded by a generation of his making, and he would smile and beam with pride when he spoke about his family. If you were to ask anyone where his happy place was, they would say on his farm in Ireland. He always had a smile and a kind word for anyone he met, and somehow you left just a little bit better for having spent time with Patrick.
Patrick was predeceased by his loving wife Eileen T. Carton in 2005. He is survived by his sons: John (Fran) Carton of Newburgh, and Rob (Teresa) Carton of Cornwall; his daughters: Lili-Ann (Dana) Putnam of New Windsor, Christine (George) Gardner of Altoona, Penn. and Irene (Blake) Mitchell of Huntsville, Ala.; thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Patrick was predeceased by his sons: Patrick J. Carton and Dennis E. Carton.
His family received visitors on Jan. 17 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was due to be held on Jan. 18 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson, and was due to be followed by interment in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall.
Anne C. Greehy
July 18, 1942 – January 9, 2018

Anne C. Greehy, of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 9 at Nyack Hospital, Nyack. She was 75 years old.
The daughter of the late John Griffin and Annie (Keady) Griffin, Anne was born on July 18, 1942 in Galway City, Ireland.
Anne was a retired Unit Secretary for Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall. She came to the United States in 1960 at the age of 17 and proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1971. Anne was a charter member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians – Division 2, Orange County. She was a medal winner for her Irish dancing at the Rita White Claddagh Dancing School.
Anne is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, John B. Greehy; her brother Michael Griffin and his wife Noreen; her sister Maureen Bruen; and her niece Anne Marie McPartland; and many close nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings: Thomas Griffin, Gared Griffin, Dela O’Reilly; and her nephew: Michael O’Reilly.
Visitation was held on Jan. 13 and 14 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, Cornwall-On-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan 15 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall-On-Hudson. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.

William C. Kirby
February 3, 1953 – January 12, 2018

William C. “Bill” Kirby passed away on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 in Highland Falls. He was 64 years old.
He was born on Feb. 3, 1953 at Ft. Belvoir, Va., the son of the late BG (Ret) Gilbert and Patricia Kirby. Bill is a graduate of Highland Falls High School where he ran cross country, and St. Thomas Aquinas College. Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2015 after 30 years of service.
Bill is survived by his wife of 20 years, Melanea Kirby; his mother Patricia A. Kirby of Issaquah, Wash.; and three sisters, Anne K. Swanson (Carl) of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Clare K. Jenkins (Richard) of Sammamish, Wash. and Elizabeth K. Fullerton (William) of Atlantic Beach, Fla. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Bill was a devoted husband, son, brother and uncle. He was a voracious reader, lover of history, and an avid sports fan.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 18 at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main St., Highland Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 19 at Blessed Sacrament Chapel, Route 9W, Fort Montgomery. Interment will follow in Eagle Valley Cemetery, Town of Highlands.

Hertha S. Kirwan
April 10, 1925-January 15, 2018

Hertha S. Kirwan, of Montrose, formerly of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 15 at the New York State Veterans Home at Montrose, Montrose. She was 92 years old.
One of seven daughters of the late Joseph and Mina (Zubiller) Schifferstein, Hertha was born on April 10, 1925 in Ramsen, West Germany.
Hertha was retired after working as a chef at the Braden’s Prep School in Cornwall-on-Hudson. She was a former member of the Cornwall Garden Club, Cornwall Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and the Canterbury Presbyterian Church.
She was known for her industrious and independent personality. Her solution to every problem was “Where there is a will there is a way!” She had great love for the garden, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hertha was predeceased by her loving husband Lawrence P. Kirwan. She is survived by her sons: Lawrence P. Kirwan (Sandra) of Milford, Penn. and Christopher J. Kirwan (Emily) of Cornwall, ; her grandchildren: Joseph Kirwan (Erin), Jessica (Kirwan), Swain (Patrick), Sage Kirwan, Michaela Kirwan and Colt Kirwan; and great grandchildren: Emma, Aubrey, Clayton, Olivia, and Jacob.
Per her wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Mildred G. Lewis

Formerly of Highland Falls
Mildred G. Lewis passed away Friday, Jan. 12 at Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation in Goshen. She was 84 years old.
Daughter of the late John Gunza and Theresa Bonak Gunza, she was born May 14, 1933 in West Point. Mildred was the widow of John Vernon Lewis who passed away in 2008.
After working for 36 years at West Point, beginning in 1953, Mildred was at one point the most senior female employee there, retiring as an account clerk from the finance department. She was a member of Highlanders Senior Citizens of Highland Falls and past president of the Highland Falls Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her loving daughter, Carol Ann Brown and husband Daniel of Blooming Grove; brother John Gunza and wife June of Highland Falls; brother-in-law David Richardson of Highland Falls; sister-in-law Phoebe Browne of Highland Falls; four grandchildren, Courtney Wright and husband Bradley, Daniel Brown and wife Erin, Cassandra DeLuca and husband Marc; four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Daniel, Teagan and Gabriella; and several nieces and nephews.
Mildred was predeceased by her sisters Julia Glenn, Theresa Winters and Catherine Richardson.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 18 at Sacred Heart Church, 353 Main St., Highland Falls. Interment will follow in Eagle Valley Cemetery in the Town of Highlands.

Joseph R. Lipnicky
November 10, 1928 – January 6, 2018

Joseph R. Lipnicky of Highland Falls passed away on Jan. 6 at the age of 89.
Born in Yonkers on Nov. 10, 1928 to the late Joseph J. and Mary Lipnicky, he graduated from Roosevelt H.S. and served in the U.S. Army from July 1946 to October 1947. Joe married the love of his life, Jenny Roz, on April 26, 1952. Together they had three sons and resided in Rockland County. Joe was national sales manager for Howard Johnson for many years and after retirement returned to work as an aide for Chestnut Ridge Transportation until the age of 82.
He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a very wise and kind man. With his sharp mind, endearing smile and heart of gold, Joe was loved by everyone who knew him. He was a NY Giants and Boston Red Sox fan, followed the horses and politics, and most of all loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by sons Raymond (Michaela) Lipnicky of Highland Falls, Jeffrey (Jane) Lipnicky of Delmar and Douglas (Karen) Lipnicky of Pomona; grandchildren Jacqueline (Jeffrey) Pearce, Jennifer (Anthony) D’Atria, Katharine Lipnicky and Trevis Lipnicky; and great-grandchildren Keegan and Madeline Pearce, and Dylan and Ella D’Atria. He will live in their hearts forever.
Joe was pre-deceased by his wife whom he loved very much, his parents, and his brother Edward.

Timothy J. McCabe

A Celebration of Life service for Timothy J. McCabe, 59, of Ogdensburg, owner of the Freight House Restaurant, was held on Jan. 15 at the restaurant, with Deacon Mark Lalonde officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Surviving is his mother, Joan McCabe of Binghamton; his longtime partner, Debbie Janson of Ogdensburg; sons Timothy (Jessica) McCabe Jr. of Highland Falls and Jason McCabe of Oswego; daughters Meghan Rilley (James) of Newburgh, Erin McCabe (Christian Martinez) of Dover, Del. and Caitlin Morgan (Keith) of Ogdensburg; step-sons Dustin Dain of Peekskill and Jeremy Janson of Highland Falls; brother John McCabe Jr. (Melissa) of Naples, Fla.; grandchildren Kyla McCabe, Tierney McCabe, Liam Rilley, Neve Rilley, Aaralyn Martinez and Christian Martinez; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, John McCabe; his first wife, Nancy McCabe; and sister Jennifer Anderson.
Tim was born on May 31, 1958 in Cornwall, the son of John and Joan (Haggerty) McCabe. He graduated from Cornwall High School, and later married Nancy O’Dell. She predeceased him in 1994. During his career he was employed at West Point as an executive chef, where he became owner of Freight House Restaurant. He and his partner Debbie have operated the restaurant since 2004.
He enjoyed the restaurant business, collecting trains, listening to music, his 1971 Dodge Charger, antique muscle cars, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Miriam Rosaire Yeoman

Miriam Rosaire Yeoman, of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 6 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Wallkill. She was 50 years old.
The daughter of the late Robert H. Brewer and Miriam R. (Falvella) Brewer, Miriam was born on July 31, 1967 in Newburgh.
Miriam was the Office Manager of R. Brewer Landscaping in Newburgh.
Miriam, on top of being a loving mother and wife, loved the outdoors, from camping and hiking to traveling the world. She was a fighter and never let anything hold her back. She will always be loved and missed beyond words.
In addition to her mother, Miriam is survived by her loving husband Wayne Yeoman at home; her children: Brandyn Yeoman and Anna Yeoman of Cornwall; and her brothers: Rodney Brewer of Newburgh, and Russell Brewer of Clyde.
Memorial visitation was held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 13 at The Kirkwood House, Cornwall-On-Hudson. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.
