Helen M. Contarino

September 24, 1939-November 12, 2017

Cornwall

Helen M. Contarino, of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest at home on Nov. 12 with her loving family by her side. She was 78 years old.

The daughter of the late Henry Govier and Helen (O’Regan) Govier, Helen was born on Sept. 24, 1939 in the borough of Manhattan.

Helen was retired after working as a National Credit Manager for Arrow Electronics in Purchase, N.Y.

She took great pride in loving and caring for her husband, Alfred of 58 years.  Helen was the true matriarch of her family.  She loved cooking and was known for her sausage and peppers.  She loved zinfandel, music, bingo and dancing. She will be missed greatly.

Helen is survived by her loving husband Alfred A. Contarino; her daughters: Elaine M. (Contarino) Cannella and her husband Frank of Cornwall, and Leanne (Contarino) Larson and her husband Carl of Cornwall; her son Brian Contarino and his wife Ellen of Seaford, N.Y; her brother William Govier; her sister Maureen Greenwood; and 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Her family received visitors on Wednesday, Nov. 15 and Thursday, Nov. 16 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson.  Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Middle Hope.

Karen McCormick

July 17, 1944-November 4, 2017

Formerly of Highland Falls

Karen Ann Delbaugh McCormick of Naples Fla., formerly of Highland Falls, died Saturday Nov. 4 at her home.

She was born in Cornwall on  July 17, 1944, the daughter of Frederick H. and Josephine R. Sears Delbaugh.

Survivors include her fiancé Neil Flickenschild; her two sons Bert McCormick and Scott McCormick (Tracey); a brother William Delbaugh (Lynda); her two grandsons Bert F. McCormick and Zachary McCormick; one great granddaughter, Hailie McCormick; brothers-in-law David McCormick (Joanne) and Joseph McCormick (Kathy);  as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who she considered her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, her high school sweetheart and husband of 26 years Bert McCormick, and her brothers John Delbaugh and James Delbaugh.

A beautiful service to honor Karen was held on Saturday, Nov. 11 in Naples, Fla. attended by family and friends. A memorial service celebrating her life will take place in Highland Falls at a future date to be announced.

J. Gerard Quigley

July 18, 1953–November 10, 2017

Rock Tavern

J. Gerard Quigley, of Rock Tavern entered into eternal rest on Nov. 10 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh with his loving family by his side.  He was 64.

The son of the late Hugh Quigley and Kathleen (McNamara) Quigley, Gerard was born on July 18, 1953 in Beacon.

Gerard attended SUNY Canton and earned an Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Science.  With his brother Kevin, he was a founding partner  of the Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  He was the owner/president of Quigley Funeral & Cremation Services in Rock Tavern.

Gerard was a devoted husband and a true family man who enjoyed spending time with his family and adored his nieces and nephews.  Family gatherings will never be the same and Gerard will be missed beyond words.  His compassion for people was portrayed through his work and the many families he served throughout his career.

Gerard is survived by his loving wife, Barbara C. (Kosjaniuk) Quigley at home; his stepson Chris R. Tarrington of Vails Gate; his stepdaughter: Joanna C. Horne of Walden; his sister: Kathleen Quigley of Peterborough, N.H.; his brothers: Hugh Quigley and his wife Margaret of Coxsackie, Patrick Quigley and his wife Joanne of Plattekill, and his twin brother D. Kevin Quigley and his wife Diane of Cornwall-on-Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation was held on on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, in Cornwall-On-Hudson.  A funeral service was held following visitation at the funeral home. Cremation took place at Oxford Hills Crematory, Chester, N.Y.

Holly M. Vargas

July 7, 1962-November 4, 2017

Formerly of Highland Falls

Holly M. Vargas of Swan Lake, a medical billing clerk and longtime area resident, died Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla.  She was 55.

The daughter of the late Franklin Delano Roosevelt Hurst and Caroline Hurst, she was born on July 7, 1962 in West Point.

Holly enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, attending her children’s sporting events and spending time with family.

Survivors include her husband, Miguel A. Vargas, at home; three daughters, Lisa Jones of Livingston Manor, Selena Vargas of Swan Lake, and Liliana Vargas of Swan Lake; one son, Robert Jones of Swan Lake; one sister, Tina Hurst of Highland Falls; two brothers, Kevin Hurst and wife Tanya of Highland Falls, and David Hurst and wife Jennifer of Highland Falls; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated November 10 in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church 264 North Main Street, Liberty, NY.  Father Edward Bader officiated.
