Joseph S. Jenkins III

Joseph Stothart Jenkins III, age 46, of River Vale, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2017.
Joseph, son of Anta Chapoteau and Joseph S. Jenkins II, was born in Richmond, Va. and raised in Highland Falls. Star pitcher of the James I. O’Neill High School Raiders, Joseph continued on to play baseball at South Carolina State University. After working as a consultant at Morgan Stanley for several years, he moved on to a successful career as an IT director for Structure Tone, Inc. in New York City. He was a fierce Giants, Knicks, and Yankees fan.
Joseph’s children were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of Joseph’s kind spirit, love of family, passion for sports and zest for life will live on through them and all the people he leaves behind.
A loving husband, father, son, brother, godfather and friend, Joseph is survived by his wife Christine, daughter Avery and son Joseph Stothart Jenkins IV. He is also survived by his mother, father, sister (Nicole Chapoteau), brother (Brian Jenkins), grandparents (Helen & Willie Daniels), nieces (Pascale and Severine) and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
Joseph is predeceased by his brother Corey Jenkins.
Viewing took place at Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, NJ on Sept. 20. A Funeral Mass will take place at Sacred Heart Church in Highland Falls, on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m.

Nellie Feith

Highland Falls
Nellie (Terbush) Feith, 105, former long-time resident of Highland Falls, passed away at Elant Nursing Home in Newburgh, on August 15. Nellie was born on August 24, 1911, to Ira Terbush and Edith (Hoornbeck) Terbush in Ulster County.
During her time in Highland Falls, Nellie was an active member of the United Methodist Church of the Highlands, including its United Methodist Women’s club, and served for many years as a Sunday School teacher there. She was also a member of the Highland Falls chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Highlanders Senior Citizens Club, as well as a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Her first job was as a telephone operator in Middletown, before her marriage to John Feith in 1932 at the Methodist Church in Phillipsport. She then went on to work in a Newburgh hairdressing salon before operating a hairdressing business out of her home on Hickory Street in Highland Falls for many years.
Nellie enjoyed music — playing the organ both in her home and in local churches — and art, as well as working in her garden and on craft projects.
She is survived by her brother, Ralph (Irene) Terbush, of Fostertown; son Harold (Elaine) Feith of Webster; grandson Richard Feith of Webster; grandson J.D. Ross (Valerie) of Manlius; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nellie is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, John; daughter, Barbara Ann (Bonnie) Ross; brothers Floyd and Harold Terbush; and sister Mildred Barkley.
A private burial was held at Peacedale Cemetery in Highland Falls. Arrangements were made through William F. Hogan Funeral Home.
Henry Kane Jr.
August 31, 1952-August 24, 2017

Henry Kane, Jr. passed away at home on Aug. 24 after a long illness. He was surrounded in love by his family, as he was welcomed into his heavenly home.
Henry was born on Aug. 31, 1952 and attended Cornwall Schools. He married the love of his life, Diane Armstrong on Oct. 1, 1994 at Riverlight Park in Cornwall-on-Hudson. He was the owner/operator of There’s No Limit Masonry, LLC. Henry’s artistic talent and building skills gave him great joy throughout his live.
Henry’s beautiful blue eyes showed the warmth he had in his soul. He was well respected and loved by all who knew him. He trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. There was always a Bible in his truck and he was willing to share his faith with anyone who would ask.
Henry is survived by his wife, Diane Armstrong Kane and his children, Tara Valez and Justin Kane. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Parker J. Ormerod and Kendra D. Ormerod. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry Kane, Sr. and Gertrude (Mae) Kane, sister, Karen Kane and brother Kevin Kane.

Mae Ruth “Bunny” McCarthy

It is with great sadness that the family of Mae Ruth “Bunny” McCarthy announces her passing on Sept. 13.
Born Easter Sunday on April 12, 1939 in Cornwall, she was the daughter of Arthur and Eleanor (Yearwood) DeVoe. She resided in Lee, N.H. for 45 years.
Mae is survived by three children, Sandra Stasinopoulos (Dimitri) of Tulsa, Okla., Timothy McCarthy (Sheila) of Savannah, Ga., and Christopher McCarthy (Wendy) of Newmarket, N.H. She also is survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mae was retired from High Liner Foods where she worked as a human resource specialist for more than 22 years. She loved her family and friends and her fondest memories were the times she shared with them.
A celebration of Mae’s life was held on Sept. 16 at Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home in Newmarket, N.H.

Dorothy Schlemmer

Dorothy Schlemmer of Cornwall entered into rest on Sept. 14. She was 92.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Silhan, she was born on Sept. 20, 1924 in East Islip, Long Island.
Dorothy owned the Canterbury Snack Shop in Cornwall. She was a member of the Mountainville United Methodist Church, the ladies auxiliary of the Mountainville Fire Company, as well as the Republican Club.
Dorothy loved her family dearly, including her dogs. She also enjoyed her time spent at the river with her friends.
Survivors include: her son Douglas Schlemmer, daughter Sandra Flemming, grandchildren: Emma and Ellie Schlemmer, and Jason Zimmardi; and great-grandson Joseph Zimmardi. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Schlemmer.
Her family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22 at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Mountainville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mary V. Tomko

Cornwall-on-Hudson
Mary V. Tomko, age 91, of Cornwall-on-Hudson entered into eternal rest at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence on Sept. 14, reuniting with her beloved husband, Frank M. Tomko (1978.) She was also preceded in death by her sister Anna, and brother, Casey.
She was born in Meriden, Conn. on Jan. 28, 1926 to parents Josephine Lubwicz and Dominic Kamsytis. She was raised by the Morin family of Meriden, and the Cella family of Wallingford. She had resided in Wallingford, Conn. for most of her life.
Mary is survived by her children, Michael, Susan and Richard (Revathi) Tomko and her grandchildren, Michael Tomko and Susan Tomko. Mary began her career as a telephone operator but mostly enjoyed being a homemaker for her family. Her hobbies were gardening, baking and knitting extreme-striped mittens. Those crazy mittens can be found in households across the country.
She was raised on a dairy farm where she developed a great respect for animals, a respect she passed along to her children. Before moving to Cornwall-on-Hudson, she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wallingford where she cherished her time as a proud bingo-caller and where she also won several church cake baking competitions for her Hawaiian-pineapple-coconut cake. She was an avid fan of the UCONN women’s basketball teams, the Boston Red Sox and all activities in which her children participated.

Lucido Englese

Lucido Englese, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Sept. 18 at St Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. He was 96 years old.
The son of the late Guiseppi Englese and Concetta (Aceto) Englese, Lucido was born on Nov. 26, 1920 in the Bronx. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Jennie (Ramaglia) Englese in 2010.
Lucido honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was retired after working as a food service manager at Aramark Corp. in Tarrytown.
Lucido was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He led a full and active life. He will be missed greatly.
Lucido is survived by his sons: Joseph and his wife, Peggy of Cornwall, and Vincent Sidoti and his wife, Sharon of Washingtonville; his daughter-in-law, Dolly Sidoti; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth, Joseph, Joseph, Vincent, Michael, John and Paul.
His family will receive visitors from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 25 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson. Entombment with Military Honors will follow the Mass at the Rosewood Mausoleum in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale.
Barbara H. Cole

Barbara H. Cole, of New Windsor entered into eternal rest on Sept. 12 at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. She was 82 years old.
The daughter of the late Alton C. Hartshorn and Mary E. (Anderson) Hartshorn, Barbara was born on Feb. 22, 1935 in Newburgh. She was predeceased by her husband, Major James C. Cole in 2013.
Barbara retired after working as a teaching assistant for the Cornwall Central School District in Cornwall-on-Hudson. She was an active member of the Cornwall United Methodist Church and a beloved member of the Quilters of the Hudson Highlands.
She is survived by her son James and his wife, Pamela of Bloomingburg; her daughter: Christiane C. and her husband, Mark Pryne of Cornwall; her grandchildren James L. and Kyle A. Cole, Jessica L. and Jenna M. Pryne; and her sister: Linda Hamel and her husband Peter and their children Susan and Laura and their children.
God will welcome her at the gates of heaven and she will be missed greatly by all.
Her family received visitors on Sept. 15 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A funeral service was held after visiting hours at the Cornwall United Methodist Church. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY.
