Patricia Agnes (Devitt) Kavanaugh

Patricia Agnes Devitt Kavanaugh passed away on Friday morning, June 23. She was 86. Born on March 19, 1931 in Montgomery to Agnes Frances (Flannery) and William J Devitt, she was married to the late William M. Kavanaugh.
Patricia is survived by four sons, William (Lisa) of Loganton, PA, Timothy of Cornwall, Michael (Kelli) of Newburgh, and Patrick (Brenda) of Suwanee GA; five grandchildren, Rordan, Logan, Jorja, Philip and Veronica; her sister, Barbara Mahoney of Tarrytown; brother, F. Edward Devitt of Montgomery; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A brother, William Devitt, also predeceased her.
Growing up, Patricia was an active parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Valedictorian of Montgomery High School. She was involved in a broad range of sports and activities including basketball and the 4-H club. She received a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Education from the New York State College for Teachers, Albany NY. She served as a teacher in Walden, Newburgh and Cornwall and later served as an Assistant Town Clerk for the Town of Cornwall.
Since 1971 she lived in Cornwall and enjoyed the friendship of many neighbors. This included the Bethlehem Church that bordered her home and its many thoughtful members, who regularly invited her to their events.
Patricia was an active parishioner at St. Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Church in Cornwall, a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Catholic Daughters and other church organizations.
Visitation was held at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Montgomery.
Edwin Sanchez
December 15, 1930– June 23, 2017

Edwin Sanchez, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on June 23 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro, Mass. He was 86 years old.
The son of the late Casto Sanchez and Virginia Vega Sanchez, he was born on Dec. 15, 1930 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico.
Edwin honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force for over 22 years and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Edwin was employed in the Civilian Personnel Office at West Point.
“Dad was a rock of strength, love, and support,” his family said. “The important things in his life were his country, his family, his cherished great grandchildren, and his beloved little dog, Willie.”
Edwin is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Milagros (Gonzalez) Sanchez; his son, Edwin J. Sanchez (Ellen) of Walden; his daughters, Evelyn I. Higgens (Timothy E.) of North Attleboro, Mass., Ivonne M. O’Brien (Timothy J.) of North Attleboro, Mass., and Cindy Wild (George) of Youngstown, Ohio; six grandchildren, Megan O’Brien, Danielle Jackson, Lauren Jordan, Amanda Sanchez, Eric and Ryan Higgens; three great-grandchildren, Lila, Eden, and Jack; and his sister, Ivia Sanchez.
His family received visitors on June 28, at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A funeral service was held at the funeral home on June 29. Entombment with military honors followed the service at Cedar Hill Cemetery & Mausoleum, in Middle Hope.

Norman Tompkins
August 6, 1931–June 24, 2017

Norman ‘Bobby’ Robert Tompkins, 85, a longtime resident of Highland Falls, formerly of Peekskill, died June 24, 2017.
He was born in Peekskill on August 6, 1931, son of the late Norman and Elizabeth (McGinnis) Tompkins. He served in the U.S. Army for nine years, and later a member of the N.Y. Guard 56th Brigade. Bobby was a member of the union local #38 in Brewster for 40 years, and for many years he worked at Turner Harrison Sheet Metal Company in White Plains. He was past-president and life member of Centennial Hose #4 of Peekskill, a life member of the Buchanan Engine Co., and a member of Fort Montgomery Fire Department for over 30 years. Bobby was also a former member of the Kings Ferry and Hudson Valley yacht clubs.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Andrea A. (nee Anderson) Tompkins; son Wayne (Marzena) Tompkins; stepson Jason Bicknell; three stepdaughters, Hazel Nicoletti, Victoria Stevens and Donna Doyle; sisters Janice (Tom) Lape and Karen (Jerry) Doherty; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and many nieces & nephews, and great-nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard ‘Dickie’ Tompkins.
