Florence Louise Brooks was reassigned to her heavenly home of record on the 8th of May after 87 years of exemplary performance as an angel of God here on earth. She was born in August of 1929 to the late Maude and Norman Clark of Wallkill. Raised on a dairy farm in rural New York during the depression, she learned the value of hard work, dedication and team spirit early in life.
She continued her dedication to human kind attending a nursing program at St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Newburgh, and completed her RN degree through a Veterans Affairs program in Albany before being assigned to a post in Hawaii.
When her duty in Hawaii ended she returned to New York, where she married the love of her life, Robert Lance Brooks, a United States Air Force NCO and Pearl Harbor survivor. They were soon transferred to Germany, where she gave birth to her son John in 1964. The family returned to Cornwall-on-Hudson, shortly thereafter, and she continued her nursing career until retiring and moving to Chipley, Fla. in 2001 to be near her son TSgt John Brooks assigned to Tyndall Air Force Base.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, brothers Norman and Elbert and survived by son John, numerous nieces and nephews along with an extended family including everyone she met throughout an extraordinary lifetime.
Elizabeth “Liz” M. Jones

Elizabeth “Liz” M. Jones, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on May 21 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, in Newburgh. She was 53 years old.
The daughter of the late Eugene August Meroni and Muriel Frances Meroni, Elizabeth was born on March 21, 1964 in Teaneck, N.J.
Elizabeth earned her B.S. in Gerontology from Quinnipiac College in Connecticut. She was a retired teacher’s aide in the Cornwall Central School District and a friend of Bill W.
“Our world lost a beautiful soul yesterday morning,” her family said. “Yet, we should rejoice in the fact that Heaven has gained an angel unlike any other. Elizabeth Meroni-Jones was a mother, a wife, and a beloved sister and aunt. She always made sure to say ‘I love you’ everyday no matter what was going on in our lives. She was a great friend to many people and the most selfless person we’ve ever met. She is the wind beneath our wings.”
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband, Donald F. Jones; her daughter, Catherine O. Jones at home; her son, Nicholas D. Jones at home; her brothers, Paul, Peter and Thomas Meroni; her sister, MaryJane Scheon. In addition to her father Eugene, Elizabeth was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Klie.
Visitation was due to be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 26 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson. Cremation will follow the Mass at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.

Jeanie Lou (Jones) Smith
February 24, 1928-May 20, 2017

Jeanie Lou (Jones) Smith ,of New Windsor, entered into rest on Saturday, May 20. She was 89.
The daughter of the late Marvin Francis and Wilma Denton Jones, she was born on February 24, 1928 in Tyler, Texas.
Jeanie graduated from Tyler High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She met her husband Robert at a roller skating rink, and they were married in Texas on June 16, 1951. They then moved to New Windsor, where they lived on Forge Hill Road for the rest of her life.
In her younger years, Jeanie worked at a telephone company in Texas. She also worked at Firth Carpet Co., Agway, J.T. Washington Appliances, and retired from Mount Saint Mary College. She was a member of the Vails Gate United Methodist Church, and an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a volunteer at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital after her retirement.
Survivors include: her loving husband, Robert H. Smith, Sr.; son Robert H. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Jan; daughter Jeanie L. Maciejko and her husband, Ted; grandchildren: Jennifer Smith Chess and her husband, Caleb; Robert C. Smith; and Jamie L. Maciejko; her great-granddaughters: Pandora Chess and Zoe Chess. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Frances Phillips, and by her brother-in-law, James R. Phillips.
There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
