Salvatore “Sam” Cassella

Salvatore “Sam” Cassella, of Cornwall-On-Hudson entered into eternal rest on April 6 at his home. He was 87 years old.
The son of the late John Cassella and Jennie D’Amico Cassella, Sam was born on August 20, 1929 in Chester.
Sam honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and retired after 20 years, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After being discharged, Sam was employed by the New York Military Academy as a carpenter and custodian.
As a talented carpenter and furniture maker, Sam enjoyed woodworking and furniture building and was especially fond of building bird houses. He also enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. Sam was a former member of the Storm King Engine Co. #2, Cornwall-on-Hudson and a Member of American Legion Post 1796, New Windsor.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor L. (Gauer) Cassella, at home; numerous nieces and nephews, especially Arlene and Robert Lang. Sam was predeceased by his brother, Rosario Cassella; sisters, Agnes LaBate and Mary Cassella.
Per Sam’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery on a date to be announced.

Eveylene Norfleet
February 4, 1925 – March 30, 2017
Formerly of Highland Falls
Eveylene Taylor Norfleet, formerly a longtime resident of Highland Falls, entered into eternal rest Thursday, March 30, in Fayetteville, Ga. She was 92 years old.
Born February 4, 1925 to the late Charlie Taylor and Roxie Twine Taylor in Hertford County, NC, Eveylene and her family lived in Eastville, Va., where she attended public and parochial schools before she migrated to Rockland County, and began working at Letchworth Village in Thiells.
On Sept. 22, 1950, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, the late Joseph Roscoe Norfleet at Calvary Baptist Church in Haverstraw. To their union four sons and one daughter were born. Her family made their home in Highland Falls.
She was a member of St. John’s AME Zion Church. After her retirement from Letchworth Village in 1981, Eveylene enjoyed visiting family and spending time with friends and neighbors, especially Betty Harris and the late Minnie Mae Kemp.
In 2004, she moved to the Atlanta area to live with her daughter and granddaughter.
Predeceased by her husband and parents, Eveylene is survived by four sons: Roscoe Norfleet of New York City, Russell (Diane) Norfleet of Salemburg, NC, Roosevelt (Helen) Norfleet of Gibsonia, Penn., and Ronald (Mary) Norfleet of Fayetteville, Ga.; daughter Regina Norfleet of Fayetteville, Ga.; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sister-in-law Rev. Thelma Irene Carrow of Kinston, NC; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on April 8, at St. John’s AME Zion Church, Highland Falls, with Rev. Moses Carter, Sr. officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor. Professional service entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home, 259 Walsh Ave., New Windsor.
