Dolores Falco
November 15, 1931-March 30, 2017
Cornwall, N.Y.
Dolores Falco passed away at home in Cornwall on March 30. She was 85. Congestive heart failure finally won out.
Dolores was the only child of Mary Kane Mitchell and Arthur Mitchell.
The first job “Sis” had, was in the Commodore Ice Cream Shop on Broadway, Newburgh. She never forget how to make a Banana Split. The owners were fond of her and years afterward welcomed her visits when she had a little boy of her own.
Dolores went to work in the business office of Strook’s, a factory in the West End. She believed she would be at Strook’s for life and through hard work and her natural intelligence advanced within the office ranks. It was a shock when that plant shut down. She would move on to office manager status at Electronic Tabulating Corporation, on Union Avenue.
Eventually, Dolores made her dream move to Manhattan. A love for railroad rides into Grand Central Station, and of theaters was instilled in her by her father. She went to work in a printing/publishing office in Manhattan and made a fast friend in the woman who hired Dolores. A mutual adoration of cats sealed the friendship. This would lead to Dolores securing an apartment in the Turtle Bay neighborhood, a stroll from the United Nations.
Dolores is survived by her adoring son, Michael, and two felines. Her beloved Siamese was next to her at the time of her last breath. As per Dolores’ wishes there will be no visitation. Arrangements, entrusted to Mary and Jim Lulves, Lulves Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Memorial contributions, as per Dolores’ requests, can be made to the Cornwall United Methodist Church, 198 Main St. Cornwall, NY 12518-the Mountainville United Methodist Church, PO Box 164, Mountainville, NY 10953; the Canine Sanctuary, PO Box 52, Mountainville, NY 10953
A celebration of life is anticipated at a future date.
