Pitcher Cameron Zamparelli slugged two home runs as the Dragons downed Warwick 7-2. The teams will meet in Warwick at 1 p.m. tomorrow to play for the district championship.
Zamparelli struck out 11 batters before Carter Hershberger replaced him in the final inning. While the Cornwall fielders didn’t have to make many plays, they came through when they were needed.
Timmy Patterson tagged a runner at third to end the second inning. Gavin Furst made a running catch in right field to strand a base runner in the third. Left fielder Michael Defelice snared fly balls in left field to end the sixth and seventh innings.
The game was close until the Dragons pulled away at the end. Pinch hitter Alex Lane helped pad the Dragons’ lead with a run-scoring base hit in the sixth inning.
