Water is safe to drink

Despite its appearance, Cornwall-on-Hudson Water Department Superintendent Robert June said the brown water town residents and businesses have been experiencing is safe to drink. The dirty appearance is the result of sediment in the line.

Around 10:30 a.m., calls began trickling into Village Hall about brown water located in the Main Street area along the main trunk line.

The Water Department employees are actively searching for the cause of the problem.

June didn’t believe it to be a result of a water main break as production numbers have remained steady. He speculated it could be the result of recent maintenance work on the pressure valves.

While continuing to pinpoint the source of the problem, June said the plan is to flush the main trunk line from the wells into town.
