Eleanor “Babe” DeVoe

Eleanor “Babe” DeVoe passed away in peace at her home on Jan. 31.
Born on Valentine’s Day in 1918 in Arlington, N.J. to Frederick and Eva Yearwood, she resided in Cornwall from early childhood until 1998 when her beloved husband of 62 years, Arthur William DeVoe, preceded her in death. Since that time she resided near her surviving daughter Mae Ruth “Bunny” McCarthy in Lee, N.H. She is also survived by her son Bruce Arthur DeVoe of Plymouth Connecticut, six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren.
She was full of life and enjoyed baking, sewing, and being a proud longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Cornwall Volunteer Fireman’s Association. Most of all she loved her family and her fondest memories were times spent with them. Her 98 years with us were a gift and she will be missed more than words can say.
A visiting hour was due to be held on Thursday, Feb. 4 from 4 – 5 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Road, Newmarket, N.H. Interment to follow on Friday at 12 p.m. at Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh, N.Y.

Thomas A. O’Keefe, Sr. of Cornwall-on-Hudson entered into rest on Monday, Feb. 1 at home with his family by his side. He was 65.
The son of the late Timothy and Thelma Allor O’Keefe, he was born on Dec. 4, 1950 in Yonkers.
Tom was retired from IBM and then MetLife. He was a life member of Storm King Engine Co. #2, holding offices of president, treasurer and trustee. In addition he was a life member of The Orange County Volunteer Firemen’s Association.
Survivors include his wife Carol, at home; children: Carol and husband Michael Brown; Thomas O’Keefe and wife Jackie; Denis O’Keefe and wife Christine; Michael O’Keefe and fiancé Jim Nevins; Timothy O’Keefe and wife Melanie; Colleen O’Keefe and fiancé Brian Harris; grandchildren: Matt, Danielle, Theresa, Brian, Aiden, Taylor, Chandler, Thomas, Olivia, Kayla, Vance, Michael, Natalia, Gavin, Chloe, Kyle; brother Timothy O’Keefe and wife Nancy; sisters: Terri and husband Tom Malta; Theresa and husband Allan Perrone; Patricia and husband Jim Boyle.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, Feb. 7 from 12-2 and 4-6 p.m. at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Tom’s memory be made to Storm King Engine Co. #2, PO Box 333, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520 or to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.
Marie G. Woods
October 17, 1930-January 30, 2016
Marie G. Woods of Cornwall entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Newburgh campus of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Leonard and Shirley Kimmes Gorton, she was born on Oct. 17, 1930 in Liberty, N.Y.
Marie graduated from Cortland and was a retired teacher and guidance counselor. She worked for many years in the Newburgh School District. She belonged to Habitat for Humanity and the Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corp. She was also a member of the Cornwall United Methodist Church. She spent countless hours in her garden, which so many people enjoyed seeing as they passed by. Marie was a loving sister, aunt and friend, and she will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her sisters: Gladys Shearer, Georgina Lark (William), and Myrtle Bernarbo (Paul); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Robert Shearer and her nephew Stephen Shearer.
The family received visitors on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at James F. Lulves Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A memorial service was held at the funeral home.
