Edith V. Cook

Edith V. Cook of Highland Mills entered into eternal rest surrounded by her family on Jan. 8 in Marco Island, Fla. The beloved wife of Kenneth, they were married for 57 years.  The cherished mother of seven children, Edith is survived by Christina Longinott of New Windsor, spouse David, Alicia Brinkman of Raleigh, N.C., spouse Robert, Judith Waye of Cornwall, spouse Thomas, Peter Cook of Martha’s Vineyard, spouse Heidi, Matthew Cook of New Paltz, spouse Jill, and Andrew Cook of Wallkill, spouse Barbara. She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth. Edith is loved by thirteen grandchildren and a great granddaughter.  She is also survived by her sister, Irene Freitsche of Citrus Springs, Fla.

Edith was a graduate of Misericordia Hospital, School of Nursing in New York City.  She worked for over 20 years for the New York Blood Center and shared many friendships with co-workers.  She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Highland Mills.  In her free time, Edith greatly enjoyed the friendship and activities at the Woodbury Senior Center.  Edith’s legacy is undoubtedly her children and the lessons of unconditional love, kindness and warmth she cast wherever she was.  She will be missed dearly.

Her family received visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 515 Route 32, Highland Mills.  A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at St. Patrick’s Church in Highland Mills.  She was laid to rest with her son in Cemetery of The Highlands in Highland Mills, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorial donations to American Lung Association www.lung.org or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org.

Anna Marie Nelsen

January 22, 1927-January 13, 2016

Anna Marie Nelsen, formerly Caufaglione, died peacefully in her Cornwall, home on Jan. 13 at the age of 88.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1927 in Haverstraw, N.Y. to Vincenzo and Donata Caufaglione.

Nonnie loved antiques and was known infamously as the Garage Sales Goddess. In her final days she spoke about how she loved staying home, how she enjoyed caring for her home, and raising her children. Her enormous love extended to all who were fortunate to cross her path.

Nonnie is survived by her sisters Bibby, Margie and brother Louie; her son Thomas Nelsen of Congers, N.Y., and daughter MaryAnne Rizzi, son-in-law Anthony Rizzi; grandchildren Teresa and Davin Hazirjian, Christina and Anders Novesky, Ann-Marie, Anthony, great grandson Mason Hazirjian and numerous nieces and nephews. Nonnie is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Nelsen, her son Michael Nelsen, and siblings Jessie, Rose, Emily, Jenny and Mary.

Patricia J. Ross

July 1, 1947-January 13, 2016

Patricia J. Ross of New Windsor entered into eternal rest on Jan. 13 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh surrounded by her loving family. She was 68 years old.

The daughter of the late William C. and Elizabeth I. Boughton Cich, Patricia was born on July 1, 1947 in Suffern.

She was an active bowler for over 40 years in the leagues at Tarsio Lanes in Newburgh and Bowling Time in New Windsor.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and nana, Patricia is survived by her husband, William J. Ross; her son, William H. Ross and his fiancée’, Rebecca Lang, of New Windsor; her daughters, Bobbi Jo Mann (Jacob K.) of  Middletown, Billie Jo Ross of New Hampton, and Betty Jo Mann (Richard D.) of Mountainville; 19 grandchildren; her sister, Joanie E. Cich of Tallman, N.Y.; her brothers, Edward Cich of Chestnut Ridge, N.Y., George Cich of Tallman, NY, John Cich of Montgomery, N.Y. and Jimmy Cich of Coleville, Calif.., and many nieces and nephews.  She was loved and will be missed by many.

Her family received visitors on Sunday, Jan. 17 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  A prayer service was held at 4 at the funeral home. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, N.Y.

The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
