Edith V. Cook

Edith Cook entered into eternal rest on Jan. 8. Her family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 515 Route 32, Highland Mills.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at St. Patrick’s Church in Highland Mills.  She will be laid to rest with her son in Cemetery of The Highlands in Highland Mills, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorial donations to American Lung Association www.lung.org or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org

Ethel Knapp Howard

May 27, 1925-January 11, 2016

Ethel Knapp Howard entered into eternal rest at home on Jan. 11 in her 91st year.
She was born in Newburgh to Ethel and Isaac Knapp on May 27, 1925.  She grew up in Cornwall-on-Hudson and attended school there. She worked as a teller at Cornwall National Bank and later became the first woman drive-in teller at the then newly-built County National Bank, now Chase Bank, at Chadeayne Circle.   She also worked as bookkeeper and receptionist at local businesses, including Bowling Time and Hulse Brothers Ford.

Ethel had a love of local history and cherished her time in the beautiful Hudson Valley.  She and her husband were ardent hikers for many years and she was able to enjoy a view of the Hudson from her living room window.  She gathered many friends over the years and carried on active correspondence with people all over this country as well as abroad. She loved writing and receiving letters.

She was a life-long member of Cornwall Presbyterian Church, and active in the Friends of the Cornwall Public Library and the Cornwall Historical Society.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, and her brother Spencer.  She is survived by her son, Paul and his wife Linda of Oak Hill, Va.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.  A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Cornwall Presbyterian Church, 222 Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Rev. Patricia J. Calahan will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall.

Virginia Marie Frost Waldron

October 19, 1918-January 9, 2016

Virginia Marie Frost Waldron, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, died peacefully on Jan. 9 at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill, N.Y.  She was 97 years old.

Born on October 19, 1918 in Norway, Maine, “Ginny,” was the daughter of the late Theodore and Eva Frost.  She was brought up in Norway and graduated from Bay Path College, prior to marrying her husband of 67 years, William Lockwood Waldron, Jr.

Ginny served as a Medical Librarian in a number of facilities and hospitals, before retiring in 1974.  She enjoyed retirement with her husband in Florida for many winters, but always returned, with him, to their native New England in the spring to plant their gardens and welcome children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren into their home for visits over the summers.

Ginny is survived by her children Theodore Waldron of Orange, Conn., Kathryn Waldron Rohe and husband, Daniel, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, and Thomas Waldron and wife, Judith, of Patchogue, N.Y.  She is also survived by grandchildren and their spouses and twelve great grandchildren; Justin and Megan Sandler and children, Joshua, Caleb, Grace and Benjamin; Jarred Sandler; Daniel and Megan Rohe and son, Jaylen; Elizabeth and Michael Dabrolski and children, Ashley, Anjolie, Aiden and Michael; Rebecca Waldron and children, Seryna and Jose; Jonathan Waldron; Theodore and Jennifer Waldron; and Emily and Russell Paine and son, Brennan.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Waldron, Jr.; her brothers, Robert Frost and Stanley Frost; grandson, Thomas Waldron, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Denise Hirsch Waldron.

A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate her life at Cornwall Presbyterian Church, 222 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, at a later date.  Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
