Robert Francis Delaney
January 19, 1947-August 23, 2015
Robert Francis Delaney passed away on Aug. 23, surrounded by his loving family, at his home in Knox, N.Y.
The son of Thomas J. and Mary Grace (Tozer) Delaney, he was born at the Cornwall Hospital on Jan. 19, 1947. His family lived on Willow Avenue in Firthcliffe from 1940 through 1956.
Bob lived in Albany County from 1961 until his passing. After his service as a Seabee in Vietnam, he settled in Knox, one of the “Hill Towns” of Albany County. After owning a construction company for many years, he served the last few years as a construction manager for the Albany County Engineering Department. He gave to his town through many community activities, including severeal terms as chief and president of the Knox Volunteer Fire Department, Boy Scout leader, and the Town of Knox Building and Zoning Administrator. He acquired his interest in firefighting from his father, Thomas J. Delaney Sr., who served several terms as chief and president of the Highland Engine Company in Cornwall.
The Mohawk Volunteer Fireman’s Association recently honored Bob as its Volunteer Fireman of 2015.
Robert is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughters Michelle (David) Romano, Sheila Martin, Traci (Timothy) Schanz, Rebecca MacMahon, and their mother Yvonne Lustenhouwer. He is also survived by step children Kevin (Megan) Sherman, Meaghan (John) Novak, along with his seven grandchildren — Emily and Matthew Romano; Delaney, Julianna and Dominick Martin; and Brogan and Ireland McMahon. Robert is also survived by his siblings Thomas (Nancy Jo) Delaney, Jr, of Rockport, Mass.; Diane Gallagher of Atlanta, Ga., Ruth-Ann (Ted) Minor of Lake George, and Mary Ann (Seale) Tuttle of Tolland, Conn.; and his step-brother Michael (Ann) Mahoney of St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Richard Delaney, and his brother-in-law John Gallagher.
He was buried with full military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery.
Richard H. Walters
July 14, 1937-August 25, 2015
Richard H. Walters, of Highland Mills entered into eternal rest on Aug. 25 at home. He was 78 years old.
The son of Homer W. Walters and Doris Ahrens Walters, he was born on July 14, 1937 in Buffalo, N.Y.
Richard owned R.H. Walters & Son Printing in Orangeburg, N.Y. He honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957.
He was an active member of Black Rock Fish & Game Club in Mountainville, NY, Woodbury Field & Stream Club in Woodbury, and the Cornwall Yacht Club in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Richard is survived by his wife, Madeline Senna Walters at home; by a son Roy Walters and his wife Ellen of Palmdale, Calif.; by a daughter Nancy Engleman and husband Klaus of Park Ridge, N.J.; by a daughter Jill Zaharek and husband James of Cornwall; by a daughter Michele Scherer and her husband Timothy of Garnet Valley, Penn. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Greenlaw of Fort Lee, N.J., and by his grandchildren: Corey, Leanna, Julia Walters, Annalise Engleman, Scott Matthew Scherer, Kristen Madeline Zaharek, Thomas Seaver Zaharek, Matthew James Scherer.
His family received visitors on Aug. 29 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, in Cornwall-On-Hudson. A graveside service was held on the same day at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mountainville.

Lt. Col. James W. (Skip) Wensyel
October 26, 1928-August 20, 2015
Lt. Col. James W. (Skip) Wensyel, US Army (Ret.), 86, of Carlisle, passed away on Aug. 20 at the Sarah Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle, Penn.
A former resident of Cornwall, he was born in Bellaire, Ohio on Oct. 26, 1928 to the late Charles and Edna Wensyel.
Skip was a 1952 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and spent over 21 years in the Army before retiring in 1972. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, receiving two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, three Purple Hearts and 10 Air Medical Meritorious Service medals. He also received foreign decorations from Korea, South Vietnam, Australia and Turkey. In addition to his tours overseas, he served as an aide to Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and Truman.
While in the service, he received master’s degrees in history, business, and literature. After his retirement, he worked in high-level positions for several employers.
In 1983, he married Jean S. McDermott McKinney. Most recently, he enjoyed being a licensed guide at the Gettysburg Battlefield. He also wrote four books and many articles that were published in periodicals.
He is survived by his wife, Jean S. Wensyel of Carlisle and many friends who will surely miss him.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 26 at Second Presbyterian Church in Carlisle with Rev. Jeffrey W. Gibelius and Rev. Jennifer J. McKenna officiating. A graveside service with full military honors was held at Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. Memorial contributions in Skip’s name can be made to the charity of your choice.
