Thursday night’s fire, which destroyed the interior of a home, located at 234 Willow Avenue, was determined to be accidental in nature and caused by an electrical malfunction in the kitchen. The only injury was to a Cornwall firefighter who suffered a shoulder injury at the scene and was transported to Cornwall Hospital.
Maria Petrose and her three sons, as well as the family dog, found alternative shelter for the night and have friends and family to rely on in the interim. Heather Toombs, a friend of the family, is collecting donations including: boys shoes (sizes 5 1/2 and 11 1/2-12) shirts (12-14 boys medium and extra large, as well as women’s extra large), pants (size 12-14 and 36, and 18-20 in women’s), toiletries, gift cards to any supermarket, Walmart, or Target, as well as Visa gift cards. For drop-off information, Toombs can be reached by calling 845-591-0199 or e-mailing htoombs06@gmail.com.
