Senior prom-goers aren’t camera shy

You can call them “The Photographed Generation.” Cornwall’s 12th-graders had their Senior Prom on Thursday evening, June 11.

There was the usual picture-taking at the riverfront, but it didn’t end there. When the teens arrived at Anthony’s Pier 9 (on Route 9W in New Windsor), there were family members waiting for them with cameras.

The friendly photographers captured the prom-goers getting out of their cars, walking up the driveway and smiling in front of the fountains. When the high school seniors finally went inside, a pair of younger siblings started posing — as if they were preparing for their big day in the future. The girls ogled their parents’ camera and pretended to blow kisses.

To be honest, the Cornwall students were good subjects for photography. The kids looked great. “Don’t you know me?” a few of them asked when they stopped at the check-in table. The class advisors were crossing names off a list, but a few times they had to hesitate, because they didn’t recognize the students in formal attire.

From the check-in table, the couples (or singles) went to the reception line that was headed by Principal Lynn Imperato. The line included administrators, chaperones and the faculty members the students had invited.

Most people went through the line quickly, shaking hands and nodding a “thank you” when someone said, “you look lovely tonight” or “have a good time.”

Once inside the ballroom, the prom-goers brought out their phones and started taking pictures of one another. A popular spot was the indoor gazebo overlooking an artificial pool.

Some of the best prepared prom-goers arrived with selfie-sticks that enabled them to take pictures of themselves, surrounded by a bunch of their friends. The selfie-stick attaches to a phone, and adds at least three feet to the photographer’s arm length.

No matter who was taking the pictures, the prom-goers were smiling!

The invited faculty members selected Brendan Kachou and Adrianna Pean as the king and queen of the prom. Their court included:

Princes: Kevin Gangemi, Dan Malvey, AJ Mathelier, John Roth and Quinn Zsido.
Princesses: Patty Darcy, Kyla Faller, Samantha Rivera, Christa Sidoti and Ali Thorpe.
