Lt. Cmdr (ret.) William C. Cathcart

August 7. 1934-February 8, 2015

William C. Cathcart entered into eternal rest at Elant of Newburgh Nursing Home on Feb. 8 at the age of 80.

The son of the late Viola and Frederick Cathcart,  Bill was born on Aug. 7, 1934 in Hamptonburgh.

He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1952 and immediately joined the U.S. Navy.

On September 22, 1963 he and his wife Barbara were married at St. Francis Church in Newburgh.

During his military career, he served in many capacities.  He received the Good Conduct Medal with two stars, National Defense Service Medal with one star, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, along with many citations. He retired in 1974 as a Lieutenant Commander.

After his retirement, Bill worked for R.C.A. and Burns & Roe at Stewart Army Subpost as a purchasing agent.

Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 353, Cornwall and a former commander.  He was also a 53 year member of the Fleet Reserve Mid Hudson Branch 229.

Bill is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Susan and husband Walter Marvel, sister-in- law Bette Grethe, brother-in-law Mark Grethe and nephew Peter Grethe.  Also, nieces Nora Reilly and her husband Michael, Diane Martinez and her husband Bill, many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his brother Frederick, sister and brother-in-law Marie and David Herbison, nephew David Herbison as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.  Bill also leaves behind his special cat Toffee.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

A Mass of Christian Burial  will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at  St. Francis of Assisi, 145 Benkard Ave, Newburgh. Burial with full military honors  will follow at  St. Francis Cemetery in New Windsor.

Mary C. Connolly

December 7, 1920-February 2, 2015

Mary C. Connolly of New Windsor, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into eternal rest on Feb. 2 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. She was 94 years old.

Mary was born on Dec. 7, 1920 in New Windsor. She was the daughter of the late Florian Zamenick and the late Rose Zorolec Zamenick. Mary was the widow of the late Harry T. Connolly, who predeceased her in 1988.

Mary was retired from Mari-Ann Bag Co. in New Windsor NY where she was a machine operator.

She is survived by her loving family — by her daughters: Patricia Favoino and husband Charles in New Windsor, and Joan Maney in Delhi, N.Y.; by her grandchildren Chris Maney and his wife Deanna, Joan-Marie Bedient, John Maney, Mary Lunn and husband Greg, Jennifer Favoino and partner Robert Lavigne, and Heather Favoino and partner Michael Finkbeiner; by her great grandchildren: Marisa, Justine, Danny, Riley, Shelby, Peyton,and Cooper Maney, Devin, Sierra, and Austin Bedient, Matthew Lavigne, Abigail Lunn and Cody Favoino-Finkbeiner.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Frederick Zamenick and John Warner; sisters Pauline Wood, Josephine Faitak, and Lillian Dombroski.

Her family received visitors at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson on Feb. 7 and  Fr. Dennis Dinan conducted a funeral service there. The service was followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
