Sales of trivets, coasters, and ornaments depicting Sands Ring Homestead, as painted by Terri Clearwater, helped raise over $1,100 toward the restoration project.
Earlier this week, David and Terri Clearwarter made a donation of over $1,100 toward the restoration of Sands Ring Homestead Museum.
Prior to the holidays Terri painted the homestead and used the image for limited edition ornaments, trivets, and coasters. The items have been on sale courtesy of Clearwater’s Gallery & Frame Shop at the Shops at Jones Farm
The Sands Ring Committee held its monthly meeting on Jan. 13; the primary focus was to identify major fund raisers for the year.
One of the fund raisers discussed entails tracking down the 3 to 4,000 students who visited the homestead as part of Cornwall’s educational program in which they learned about the Colonial Era.
From 1970 to 2010, fourth grade students spent a week at the homestead making candles and other colonial crafts while learning 18th century history.
The committee is hopeful, through assistance from the school district and by word of mouth, these former students can be tracked down and asked to assist in the renovation efforts with a donation.
The committee is also still seeking community members skilled in marketing, fund raising, publicity, social media, and grant writing.
Those interested may make a donation through sandsring.org. Since the homestead was built in 1760, donations are being accepted in multiples of 1,760. Donors may place the decimal anywhere they want. Donations may also be mailed to P.O. Box 226, Cornwall, N.Y. 12518.
The Sands Ring Committee will meet again at 7 p.m. on Feb. 4, in Munger Cottage.
