John H. (Jack) Smith, Jr.

Smith, John H., Jr., (Jack), age 85, of Ramsey, N.J. died Thursday, July 24.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., Jack was raised in Cornwall-on-Hudson and lived in Ramsey for 47 years. He attended Storm King School on Cornwall-on-Hudson and Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., as a member of the Class of 1950. He was a Marine veteran who served during the Korean War from 1950-1953 and then in the Marine Corps Reserve, attaining the rank of Captain. Before his retirement in 1989 he was an executive for Mobil Corp, New York City for 40 years.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 50 years, Phyllis (nee Saladin) Smith of Ramsey, his daughter, Susan Smith Beward and her husband John of West Milford, N.J. Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Melissa, Sarah and Vincent Van Hovel. He was predeceased by his son, John H. Smith III and his sister, Betty Smith Lawrence.
A Memorial Service was held on July 27 at Fardale Trinity Church, in Mahwah. Private entombment was held at Garden of Memories, Township of Washington. N.J.
