Kalman John Banyak Jr.

August 14, 1952-June 15, 2014

Kalman John Banyak Jr. (Kal),  61 of Denver, Col. formerly, of New York and Las Vegas, entered into rest on June 15.

The son of the late Magyar Violinist, Kalman John Banyak Sr. and Sarolta Didi, Kalman was born in Budapest, Hungary on August 14, 1952.  At the age of 5, he and his family escaped the Soviets and fled to the United States.

As a young boy in Manhattan, Kalman learned the language and helped support his parents and siblings. He loved playing his guitar and violin, while singing with his distinctive bass voice.  Music was in his gypsy blood. He excelled at mathematics and music. At age 18, Kalman married an Irish girl from the neighborhood and daughter Patricia Jeanne (PJ) Banyak was born in 1970. Unfortunately, a few years later,  father and daughter were separated due to the divorce.  For the next three decades, Kalman vanished.

For years, PJ searched the Internet for information about her father.  She had no pictures or memories of what he looked like. She finally found him at the Denver North Care Facility in Colorado.

Father and daughter were reunited after 34 years. They spent the next eight years bonding, visiting, and making up for the time they had lost.  She still wonders what happened to him during the thirty plus years he was missing?  If anyone has any information of his whereabouts between 1972-2000, please contact pbuononato@gmail.com.

Kalman leaves behind his daughter Patricia (PJ) Buononato, son-in-law Michael and granddaughters Ryley and Shea of New Windsor.

A memorial service was held at the Denver North Care Center, Colorado.  A private family service will be held in New York.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in memory of Kalman, to the Denver North Care Facility 2201 Downing St, Denver, CO 80205.
