Mrs. Powell’s kindergarten students are likely to remember Arbor Day for a long time. They planted a tree on April 25 and now they’re taking care of it. Every day two students water the young dogwood in front of Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School.
Brian Foley, a local landscaper and the father of a kindergarten student (Kinsley), donated the tree to the school. On Friday afternoon, the tree was just about planted when the kids came out to admire it. Mr. Foley let them take turns with two shovels. Their job was to fill the hole that he created when the tree was planted
The kids will continue to water the tree for the rest of the school year. It will remind them of what they heard on Earth Day — they’re supposed to take care of trees and not damage them.
