Emily Marie Flayer

Emily Flayter, a long time Cornwall resident entered into eternal rest on Monday, Nov. 25 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 102.
The daughter of John and Anna Baker, Emily was born on July 2, 1911 in Renssalaer, N.Y. She married Martin Flayter in 1931, who predeceased her in 1989.
Emily worked for many years in the Cornwall School District and was appointed secretary of the High School Guidance Department in 1958, where she expressed her love and concern for the many students she met.
She was one of six original members of The Cornwall Hospital Thrift Shop, and was a long standing member of The Cornwall Methodist Church and the order of The Eastern Star.
Emily is survived by her loving daughters; Jacqueline and husband Robert Funck of Cornwall, and Marlyn and husband Richard Dickinson of Waynesville, N.C.; her grandchildren; Lori and husband Kevin Hoarty, Jodi Andrews, Heidi and husband Peter Cook, Wendy and husband John Harrigan and Robyn and husband Chuck Riordan; her great grandchildren; Molly, Connor and Emma Hoarty; Quinn Andrews; Kenny and Chloe Cook; Michael Harrigan and Emily Riordan.
Her family remembers her joyful spirit and zest for life. She loved cards, reading, computer games and being around people. Emily’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the center of her world. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met with a wink and a smile that warmed their heart.
Family and friends can gather on Friday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson. Burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday Nov. 30 at noon at the Methodist Church in Cornwall with Pastor Robert Milsom officiating.

Jean Ferreri
September 20, 1919-November 13, 2013
Jean Ferreri died at Wingate at Ulster on Nov. 13. She was 94 and a resident of Highland, who had previously lived in Cornwall.
The daughter of Donato and Mary Giordano DeMartino, she was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 20, 1919. She was a homemaker and the wife of the late Frank Ferreri.
Survivors include her daughter Lillian Ferreri of New Windsor; her brothers Anthony and Mario DeMartino; her grandchildren Jessica Gentile, Robert Gentile and Michael Lopez; her great grandchildren Jorge and Antonio Perez; and her nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers Emily, Louise, Evelyn, Leonard, Joseph and John.
The family will not be receiving visitors. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall.
