Irene Katherine Knihnicki

January 10, 1924-September 25, 2013

Irene Katherine Knihnicki, a former long-time resident of Cornwall, died on Sept. 25 at the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds, Mass. She was 89.

The daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Lecko) Knihnicki, she was born in Amherst, Mass. on Jan. 10, 1924.

She worked for the Department of the Army at West Point for over 30 years as the executive assistant to the principal of the dependents school, where she earned numerous Excellence in Service awards.

She is survived by her brother Edwin Knihnicki and his wife Pauline of Sunderland, Mass.; her brother Richard Knihnicki and Marilyn Berube of Sutton, Vt. and her sister Florence Droy of Southampton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor, who died at age 11, and by her sister Helen Blake of Arizona.

A funeral was held at the Douglass Funeral Service in Amherst, Mass and was followed by burial in South Amherst Cemetery.

Anne F. Lyle

April 30, 1920-October 7, 2013

Anne F. Lyle of Cornwall entered into rest on Oct. 7, with her family by her side.  She was 93.

The daughter of the late Edwin and Agnes McGrath Cunningham, she was born on April 30, 1920 in Newburgh.

She married the love of her life, James H. Lyle, on July 4, 1942.  They were stationed in Fort Bragg, NC before moving back to this area. Together they were the most generous parents that anyone could hope for.

Anne will be remembered for her emphasis on education and her charitable work. She was loving and kind, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children: J. Edwin (Ed) Lyle and wife Barbara; Mary L. Missere; James H. Lyle, Jr. and wife Lisa; Ellen L. Garry and husband Brian; David J. Lyle and companion Jane Turner; Stasia L. Henderson and husband Mark; grandchildren: Michael (Ashley), Christie (Ryan), Nicole (Terence), Anthony (Paula), Peter, Philip (Pamela), James, Monica (Tommy), Robert (Kerri), Allison (Jim), Tiffany, Kyle (Jacquie), Ryan, Hayley and Stephen; great-grandchildren: Evan, Owen, Aaliyah, Charlotte, James, Marisa, Jasmine, Liam, and Fiona; a cousin Ferdinand Ritz, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband James H. Lyle and her sister and brother-in-law, Jack and Jeanne Davis.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 4-7 p.m. at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.  Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Karen McLoughlin

August 27, 1946-October 2, 2013

Karen McLoughlin of Cornwall passed away on Oct. 2 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.  She was 67 and a former resident of Liberty.

The daughter of the late Louis and June Richards Ratner, she was born on Aug. 27, 1946 in Liberty. She was a nurse for Mid Island Hospital in Bethpage.

Karen is survived by her mother, June Ratner of Liberty; son, Robert A. McLoughlin and his wife, Deborah of Cornwall; daughter, Jennifer Hoyt and her husband, Robert of Glendora, CA; brothers, Robert Ratner of Swan Lake, Milton Ratner of Liberty and Daniel Ratner of Liberty; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A gather was held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Elks Club, in Liberty.  Cremation took place in the Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.
