The kids were on vacation, but they still practiced five musical selections for a concert in Albany.

They rehearsed on their own, and they got together with their middle school chorus director, Valerie Ransbottom.

On Aug. 10, the young vocalists and their parents headed to the state’s capital for a full-day session with youngsters from other schools and director Amanda Quist of Westminster Choir College. The kids auditioned for special parts, and one Cornwall student, Scott Rolon, earned a place in a special group.

The following day the Middle School Honor Choir performed in front of an appreciative audience. To be part of the choir, youngsters needed a recommendation from their choral director as well as a high score on their all-county auditions. They also had to be willing to work hard during the summer.
