Aram Casparian
December 2, 1931-July 1, 2013
Aram Casparian of Cornwall on Hudson, NY, passed peacefully into God’s hands on Monday, July 1, from a brief illness, with his loving family at his side.
Aram was born Dec. 2, 1931 in Peekskill to the late Manook and Perooz Casparian. He was predeceased by his brother Caspar and sister-in-law Novart.
Aram graduated from Peekskill High School and Bob Jones University. He received advanced degrees from Columbia University and he served in the U.S. Army.
Aram was a teacher, an elementary and middle school principal and retired in 1990 as a deputy superintendent of the Lakeland School District in New York.
As a member of the Van Cortlandtville Historical Society, he helped create the Little Red School House, where he played the role of a colonial school master.
Aram belonged to the Yorktown Presbyterian Church and Cornwall Presbyterian Church. He was a dedicated leader of the Presbytery of Hudson River serving in many roles including moderator. He was a past president of the Cornwall Lions Club and an executive committee member of the Hudson Valley Hospital Board.
Aram is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, his sister Armenoosh (husband Edward) Shahbazian, four daughters Sherrill (Eric) Miller, Michelle Kemp, Suzanne Serbia, and Allison Casparian. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Ethan and Lindsey Miller, Emily and Kyle Kemp and step grandchildren including Rafael and Romina Serbia. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Aram’s Life will be held at Cornwall Presbyterian Church at 222 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on- Hudson on Saturday, July 6 at 11 a.m.

Theresa M. Christianson
October 24, 1938-June 26, 2013
Theresa M. Christianson of New Windsor, peacefully entered into rest on Wednesday, June 26 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. She was 74.
The daughter of the late James and Barbara Perrone Russo, she was born on October 24, 1938 in Cornwall.
Theresa was a cook at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church for many years. Terri, as many called her, also loved arts and crafts.
Survivors include: her loving son Michael Christianson; brother Frank Russo and wife Angie; sister-in-law Terry Russo; plus several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Alton P. Christianson; her son Thomas Christianson; and several brothers and sisters.
The family received visitors on Sunday, June 30, from at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, July 1 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall-on-Hudson, and was followed by interment in St. Thomas Cemetery.
Beverly A. desRosiers
August 23, 1936 – June 27, 2013
Beverly A. desRosiers passed away on June 27, at her home in Ogdensburg, N.Y., after a long illness. She was 76.
She was born on Aug. 23, 1936 in Ogdensburg to the late William and Mary Spooner Burns. Beverly was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Ogdensburg and retired from AAFES at West Point. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg.
Survivors include daughters Deborah Janson of Ogdensburg, Beth Laurie and husband John of Cornwall; son Gregory Burns and wife Terri of New Windsor; grandchildren Kimberly Hallenbeck, Dustin Dain, Michael Saylor, Jeremy Janson, Gregory Burns and Shane Burns; sisters Amy Erwin of Ogdensburg, and Joan Riley of Wayne, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband James desRosiers and former husband Robert J. Burns; her brother George Burns and his wife Fe, her sister Rita Hess and her husband George, and her brother-in-law Harry Erwin.
Cremation was directed by Frary Funeral Home. A memorial Mass will be said on Monday, July 8 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg.

Allison (Alice) Douglass
July 12, 1913-March 27, 2013
Allison (Alice) Douglass, a former resident of Cornwall, died in Davenport, Fla. on March 27. She was 99.
The daughter of Thomas and Annie Smith MacMorran, she was born in Firthcliffe, Cornwall on July 12, 1913. She was married to the late Thomas W. Douglass.
She was a charter member of the Highland Engine Company Auxiliary, a former member of the Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a volunteer with Cornwall Hospital.
Survivors include her sons: Thomas W. Douglass III and his wife Sally, and Richard Douglass and his wife Patricia — both of Davenport, Fla.; her grandsons Thomas W. Douglass IV and his wife Chrissy, John M. Douglass and his wife Katie, and Brian R. Douglass and his wife Jennifer; her granddaughters Donna Watson and husband Kevin, Debra L. Douglass, and and Diane M. Muscarella and husband Robert; and her great grandchildren Scott, Daniel, Kevin, Abby, Isla and Teagan. She was predeceased by her brother and sister Robert MacMorran and Mary Holt.
The family will receive visitors from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Friday, July 12 (on what would have been her 100th birthday) at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson. A funeral service will be held at noon and will be followed by burial in Willow Dell Cemetery in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Anthony J. Zanin
August 27, 1923-June 21, 2013
Anthony J. Zanin passed away on June 21 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. He was 89 years old and a long-time resident of Cornwall.
The son of Biagio and Margherita Coronet Zanin, he was born in Vintondale, Penn. on Aug. 27, 1923. He was married to Virginia E. Duffy Zanin, who passed away on July 20,2008.
Mr. Zanin served overseas with the Army Air Corps in World War II and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of first lieutenant. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1951 and became a licensed land surveyor and a chief civil engineer for John Arborio Inc. in Poughkeepsie.
He belonged to Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Syracuse University, the 384th Bomb Group (H) Inc 8th Air Force, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9256 Fort Montgomery. He was a member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Church, and he and his wife delivered Meals on Wheels in the Cornwall area.
Survivors include his sister Frances V. Kent of Fort Myers, Fla.; his son John M. Zanin and wife Sharon of Cornwall-on-Hudson; his daughters Regina Zanin of Greensboro, N.C. and Lucille Nahow of Cornwall-on-Hudson; his grandchildren Melissa Flanagan, Justin Nahor, Anthony J. Zanin and John Michael Zanin and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife and his sister Elida P. Muro.
The family received visitors on Monday, June 24 at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 25 at St, Thomas of Canterbury Church, and was followed by burial with full military honors at St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall.
