Michele Dalgoutté Hawkins

May 1, 1949-May 23, 2013

Michele Hawkins of Phoenix, Ariz. died on May 23 in Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix. She had just turned 64 and was a former resident of Cornwall-on-Hudson.

The daughter of Barbara B. Dalgoutté and the late Michael R. Dalgoutté, she was born in Ossining and moved to Cornwall-on-Hudson with her family when she was 12. She graduated from Cornwall Central High School in 1967 and then attended Lady Cliff College. After moving to Phoenix, she attended Arizona State University, where she majored in art. Michele was a very loving and devoted wife and mother. She is deeply missed by her family and friends.

Survivors included her husband of 35 years, Gary Hawkins; her daughter Lauren Hawkins-Dimon and her husband Kristopher Dimon of Phoenix; her mother Barbara Dalgoutté of Cornwall-on-Hudson; her sister Shawn Dalgoutté of Cornwall-on-Hudson, her brother Christopher N. Dalgoutté and his wife Dora of New Windsor; her nephew Dylan M.D. Wendt and her great nephew Jayden M. Wendt of Cornwall-on-Hudson; and her in-laws Ronald and Helen Hawkins of Phoenix.

Services were private. A gathering of family and friends will be held in Phoenix. Donations in Michele’s memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley, Ryan House, 110 W. Merrill Street, Second Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85013.

Gertrude Bittle Murray

February 4, 1918-June 11, 2013

Gertrude Bittle Murray passed away on June 11 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in Wallkill. She was 95 and a resident of Cornwall.

The daughter of Martha May Williams and William Mark Bittle, she was born on Feb. 4, 1918 in Haskell, N.J. She was a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, retired teacher and homemaker, and the widow of Thomas N. Murray, who passed away in 2010. She was a member of the Cornwall Presbyterian Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Survivors include her daughter Martha M. LaValee and husband Roderick of Cornwall-on-Hudson; her grandchildren Andre LaValee and wife Rebecca, Jennifer Wagner and husband Michael, Nicholas LaValee and Stephen Lavalee; her great grandchildren Catherine Wagner, Gregory Wagner, Douglas Wagner, Luke LaValee and Lillian Gertrude Wagner.

She was predeceased by her daughter Katherine Ann Murray and her sister Elizabeth Johns.
The family received visitors on Friday, June 14 at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home. A memorial service was held on June 15 at the Cornwall Presbyterian Church. Burial was private.
