Kenneth Nye Butler
July 24, 1934-February 17, 2013
Kenneth Nye Butler of Cornwall NY, a 40 year Orange County resident, died Feb. 17 at home in Cornwall after a courageous twenty year battle with Parkinson’s Disease and other complications. At his side was his wife of fifty-six years Alma Elaine (Cerra) Butler and his daughter Maria Lindstrom.
Kenny was born on July 24, 1934 in New York City to Ellsworth “Jack” Butler and Ruth (Nye) Butler, the eldest sibling of Joan Goetz and Maureen Villone. He is survived by Alma Elaine (Cerra) Butler of Cornwall; Wayne Butler, wife Sara, and children Alexis and Ian of Austin, TX; Maria Lindstrom and her children Arielle and Noah of Cornwall-on-Hudson; sister Joan Goetz and husband Walter of Wayne, N.J. and their children Daniel Goetz, his wife Laura, and children Jennifer, Matthew, and Jake of Wayne, N.J. and Thomas Goetz of North Carolina; sister-in-law Kathy Cerra and spouse Kathy Hammells of Yonkers; and brother-in-law George Villone and son Giorgio of West Islip, NY.
He was predeceased by his son Gregory Scott Butler and sister Maureen Butler Villone.
Kenny graduated from Newtown High School in 1953 and enrolled in Hunter College, where he met his future wife Alma Elaine Cerra. They were married in 1956 after he served two years in the U.S. Army.
After completing his bachelor’s degree, Kenny secured a position on Wall Street, and rose to the executive position of Secretary/Treasurer. He and Alma moved to Orange County in 1962.
When the children settled into adulthood, Kenny and Alma semi-retired to Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. In 1998, they moved to Cornwall when grandchildren began to arrive.
The family will receive visitors on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson. Burial will follow at Orange County Veteran’s Cemetery in Goshen on Saturday Feb. 23.
Clarence P. (“Casey”) Mans
February 28, 1929-February 13, 2013
Clarence P. “Casey” Mans entered into rest on Feb. 13 in Newburgh. He was 83 and a long-time resident of Cornwall.
The son of the late Peter and Johanna Langkeek Mans, he was born on Feb. 28, 1929 in Volga, S.D. He was married to the late Elizabeth “Betty” Parella Mans.
Casey was an Air Force flight instructor during the Korean War, and met his future wife while he was stationed at Stewart Air Force Base.
He later worked for Bard Chevrolet in Newburgh, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for sales before leaving to start his own business — Mans Brothers RV and Auto Centers in Vails Gate, which he operated until his demise.
He was a member of the Meadow Hill Reformed Church for many years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather (Opa), who will be deeply missed by all (including his loyal dog Peppy).
Survivors include his children, Douglas Mans and his wife Colleen of New Windsor, and Jeffery Mans and his wife Sandra of Loudonville; his grandchildren Stephen, Peter, Jennifer, Laura and James Mans; his sisters Margaret DeGroot and Johanna Brink of Grand Rapids, Mich. and June Gorter of Kansas City, Mo.; his brothers Arie Mans of Orange City, Iowa and Peter Mans of Washington. In addition to his wife Betty, he was predeceased by his son John Mans, his sisters Elizabeth Terkelsen and Dina Meyer, and brothers Henry, Otto, Mitchell, Robert (Bob) and Louis.
His family received visitors on Monday, Feb. 18 at Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh. A funeral service was held on Feb. 19 at Meadow Hill Reformed Church in Newburgh.
