John F. Igo

November 25, 1936-December 4, 2014

John F. Igo, 78, of Cornwall-on-Hudson died on Dec. 4  at Elant @ Newburgh after an illness.

John was born on Nov. 25, 1936 to the late John and Anne (Fallon) Igo in Boston, Mass.    He was a graduate of Boston College High School and Boston College.  He later received his master’s degree from Calvin Coolidge College.

Teaching was his passion and he devoted over 45 years to the profession. After retirement in 2000, he continued to work at Marlboro in many capacities including the camera club, chief photographer for student events and sharing his patriotism with the students.  This past June, he was honored at the Senior Awards banquet for his service to the district.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves.  He was an active member in the local branch #229 of the Fleet Reserve Association.  He ran the annual Memorial Day Tea, Veterans Day program and the Pearl Harbor Ceremony at Marlboro High School.

In 1964, John married Margaret (Peg) Cullen.  She predeceased him on May 21, 2014.

John’s true joy in life was finding a bargain.  He loved picking out “treasures” that he would share with family and friends.  His quick wit was admired by others and he never left home without a camera.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, Peg; his brother-in-law Jim Cullen and sister-in-law, Maureen Cullen.
