Susan Bunte

Highland Falls

Susan N. Bunte passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at her home in Highland Falls.  She was 70 years old.

Daughter of the late Max and Fannie Glusman Hirschberg, she was born June 14, 1947 in Newburgh.

Susan worked in the Military Pay & Finance Department at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and was a former employee in the finance office of the Village of Highland Falls.

Survivors include her loving husband Dexter J. Bunte of Highland Falls; daughter Lauren Bunte and husband Erik Rodriguez of Brooklyn;  son Aaron Bunte and wife Aira of Stamford, Conn.;  grandson Eli Rodriguez;  sister-in-law Charlene Hirschberg of Warwick; and many dear cousins including Shirley Rose of Sarasota, Fla.

Susan was predeceased by her brother Harry Hirschberg.

A graveside service was held on Friday, July 14 in Peacedale Cemetery in Highland Falls,  officiated by Rabbi Philip Weintraub.

Beth Ann Kain

November 15, 1955-July 10, 2017

Cornwall

Beth Ann Kain, 61, of Cornwall passed away on July 10 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Newburgh on Nov. 15, 1955. She is the daughter of the late William and Margaret Kain.

Beth graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and was employed for more than 30 years by New York State Hudson Valley DDSO. She retired in July 2016. Beth was well known among her friends and colleagues for her extensive hobbies in arts and crafts, cake decorating and she possessed an impressive collection of ornaments and dolls. She enjoyed the comfort and love of her pet dogs, Princess, Scruffy and Rosie.

Beth is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, William (Bill) Cosby, her daughter, Christa Kain of Cornwall; sons William Cosby and daughter-in-law, Tami Coddington, of Marlboro and Aaron Cosby and daughter-in-law, Sonia, of Haverstraw; her grandchildren Isaiah Roman, Jael Kain, Joseph, Adrianna and Delaina Coddington-Cosby, Aaron Cosby, Jr. her best friend and sister, Cindy Commeau of Westford, Mass. and several nieces and nephews.

Those wishing to remember Beth in a special way may make a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society or the ASPCA.

There was a wake on Monday, July 17 at Doulin Newburgh Funeral Home Inc., 318 N. Montgomery Street, Newburgh, NY 12550 followed by a graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor.

Beridiana Lopez

February 1, 1936-July 13, 2017

Cornwall

Beridiana Lopez, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on July 13 at Community Hospice Anne & Donald McGraw Center for Caring, Jacksonville, Fla.  She was 81 years old.

The daughter of the late Jose Rivera and Justa (Santiago) Rivera, Beridiana was born on Feb. 1, 1936 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico.

She was retired after working as a cook at the U.S. Military Academy-West Point, NY and as an employee of Majestic Weaving in Cornwall.

Beridiana was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Hector M. Lopez; her daughters, Blanca I. Rosa, Sonia I. Taranto, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Madeline Diaz of Cornwall, Migdalia Rodriquez of Callahan, Fla., and Milagros Gabino of New Windsor; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; her brothers, Jose, Jr., Floilan, Juan and Erico; and many nieces and nephews.  Beridiana was predeceased by her brothers, Obdulio, Feliberto, and Benjamin; her sisters, Francisca Gonzalez and Maria Machado.

Her family received visitors on July 18 and July 19 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, July 20 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson and was followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

Memorial Contributions in Beridiana’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Anne B. Morgan

July 27, 1936-July 16, 2017

formerly of Cornwall-on-Hudson

Anne B. Morgan, 80, of  Winter Park, Fla. formerly of Cornwall-on-Hudson, en-tered into rest on July 16 at home with her loving family at her side. She was 80.

Anne was born on July 27, 1936 in Newburgh. She was the daughter of Hugh V. and Frances Ewanich Morgan.  Both parents predeceased their daughter.

Before moving to Florida, Anne was an area resident until 1985. She worked at the Cornwall Hospital as a dietician secretary.

Survivors include: one brother: Hugh V. Morgan, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Warrington, Penn. and three sisters: Marie Morgan of Winter Park, Fla., Kathleen Chieffe  and her husband Ronald of Cocoa Beach, Fla.,and Frances Hahnel and her husband Frank of DeBary, Fla., many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 24 from 9-10 a.m. at Engel Funeral Home, Inc., 5319 Route 9W, (Middlehope) Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assissi Church, Newburgh. The celebrant will be the Rev. John Vondras.

Interment will follow in Mt. St. Francis Cemetery, New Windsor.

Sebastian Scocozza

January 2, 1929-July 17, 2017

Cornwall

Sebastian Scocozza passed away Monday, July 17 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, in Newburgh. He was 88 years old. Son of the late Erminio and Rose Inzana Scocozza, he was born January 2, 1929 in the Bronx..

Sebastian was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired School Bus Driver with Varsity Bus Co., in the Bronx.

Survivors include his wife Concetta Martinez Scocozza, at home; his son Arthur Scocozza and his wife Diane of Putnam Valley, N.Y.; his daughter Carol Ann Fehlings and her husband Allan of Fairfax, Va.; his step daughter: Theresa Tetro and her husband Joseph of New Windsor, his step sons: Anthony Buonanno and his wife Jean of Highland Mills, John Buonanno and his wife Annette of Chester, Robert Buonanno and his wife Moira of Harriman; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Sebastian was predeceased by his first wife Emily Scocozza and siblings: Anthony, Mario and Rachael.

His family was due to receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 20 at Smith Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 21 at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemeter in Putnam Valley.

Ruth Elizabeth Travers

August 1, 1945-July 12, 2017

Highland Falls

Ruth Elizabeth “Beth” Travers passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Split Rock Rehabilitation Center in Bronx, NY.  She was 71 years old.

Daughter of the late Edward and Marion Carson Schulz, she was born August 1, 1945 in Poughkeepsie.

Beth was a medical clerk at Keller Army Hospital, West Point; a member of Grace Baptist Church in Highland Falls; and a former member of the Town of Highlands Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Beth was predeceased by her brother Richard Schulz and leaves behind her church family and many other friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 21st at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Highland Falls, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 22 at Grace Baptist Church, 54 Old State Road, Highland Falls.  A funeral service officiated by Pastor Steve Snavely, will begin at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church on Saturday.  Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.
