Shirley Komonchak

Highland Falls

Shirley H. Komonchak passed away Wednesday, June 14, at Wingate at Beacon in Beacon.  She was 96 years old.

Daughter of the late Harold Herbert and the late Hilda Stromberg Herbert, she was born September 21, 1920 in Doodletown. Shirley was the widow of John J. (Jack) Komonchak.

She was a member of United Methodist Women of Highland Falls, 4 Paws Humane Society of Highland Falls, and a retired elementary school teacher with the Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery School District, where she taught for 29 years.

Survivors include her loving son Tim Komonchak and his wife Betsey of New Windsor; sister Adelaide H. Komonchak of Richmond, Va.; grandson J. Timothy Komonchak, Jr. and great-grandson Cameron Komonchak of Bucks County, Penn.; nephew Richard Komonchak of Frederick, Md.; and niece Sandra Center of Richmond, Va.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, June 24 at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main St., Highland Falls.  A funeral service will commence at noon on Saturday officiated by Rev. Karina Feliz.  Interment will follow in Mt. Repose Cemetery, West Haverstraw.

Hannah Marie Scherf

January 26, 1949-June 18, 2017

Vails Gate

Hannah Marie Scherf, of Vails Gate, entered into eternal rest on June 18 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, in Newburgh. She was 68 years old.

The daughter of the late James H. Deyo and Beatrice Brewer Deyo, she was born on Jan. 26, 1949 in Cornwall.    She was a Dispatcher for United Parcel Service in Newburgh.

Hannah is survived by her loving husband, Larry Scherf; her daughters, Stephanie B. Scherf and her husband, Dennis Felgner of Wallkill, and Jennifer Steinberg and her husband, Jason of Wallkill.

Her family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on June 24 at the funeral home.  Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
