Michael Noel Farrell

December 31, 1944-September 20, 2016

Michael “Noel” Farrell, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Sept. 20 at his home. He was 71.

The son of the late James and Margaret Farrell, Noel was born on Dec. 31, 1944 in Damerstown, County Kilkenny, Ireland.

He was an active member of the Cornwall community and St. Thomas of Canterbury Church.  Noel was a world renowned chef who cooked for the likes of the Rockefellers, in five star resort hotels in Hawaii, and even for the President of the United States.  Noel was an honor graduate at St. Mary’s Hotel College in Ireland.  He served at The Gresham Hotel and Strand Hotel in Ireland and went onto Frankfurt, Germany to complete his apprenticeship.  Noel traveled to Hawaii where he met the love of his life while cooking at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.  Noel and Pamelyn then traveled to the mainland where he was an executive chef at Lincoln Center in New York City.  Noel was then chosen for a special assignment at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.  He was one of five chefs selected to cater the candlelight dinner for President Reagan’s Inauguration.   Later, he was a partner at Chelsea on the Hudson in West Nyack and was most recently known for the many years he owned Noel’s Restaurant in Stony Point.
Our dad was caring, loving and the hardest working man we know.  He will be deeply missed.

Noel is survived by his loving wife, Pamelyn G. Farrell, at home; his daughters, Kimberly Maniscalchi (Gaspar) and Tara Farrell. Sons, Michael Troy Farrell, Darren Farrell and Kevin Farrell (Chrystal); his grandchildren, Tori, Jordan and Xavier; brothers, Dennis, Liam, Canice, Sean, Seamus and Kieran; sisters, Molly and Sara.

Joyce Patricia Kaplan

March 17, 1930-September 17, 2016

Joyce Patricia Kaplan of Nantucket, Mass. Passed away peacefully on Sept. 17, surrounded by family and friends.

The daughter of Jack and Ida Kaplan, she was born March 17, 1930 in Ellenville. She was predeceased by brothers Stanley and Norman Kaplan. She is survived by her brother Jerry Kaplan (Clarice) of Fort Montgomery, daughter Sherry Loucks (Nelson) of Nantucket, Mass., son Gregg Thompson (Patti) Westlake Village, Calif., daughter Janna Howe (Tom) of Cornwall; by her grandchildren, Christina Loucks Ahumada, Stephanie Loucks, Debra Loucks, and Matthew Thompson. Great grandchildren, Mila Ahumada and Jackson Jeffrey Lowe. Nieces, Leone Semeranom, Rhonda Maddock, Mindy Horner, Jaclyn Taub and Jennifer Sherman in addition to several grand- nieces and nephews.

Joyce worked for many years as a caretaker and caregiver at Deerwoods in Cornwall-on-Hudson a position she took great pride in.

She moved to the Landmark House on Nantucket in 2006, where she met many wonderful people who became part of her family. While there she volunteered at the Salt Marsh Senior Center doing what she loved most; helping others. She also volunteered at the Cottage Hospital Thrift Shop. She loved baking and sharing with everyone.

Joyce was a very special person, loved by all around her. She was very proud of both her children and grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at the Congregation Ezrath Israel in Ellenville on Sept. 20, and was followed by internment at Ezrath Israel Cemetery in Wawarsing, N.Y.

Memorial donations may be made to the Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

Ruth Morton

The Cornwall United Methodist Church will host “A Time to Remember Ruth Morton” on Saturday, Oct. 7, and invites the community to a potluck luncheon in the church’s fellowship hall at noon.

Armand J. Nannini

October 11, 1922-September 23, 1016

Armand J. Nannini, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Sept. 23 at Wingate at Beacon. He was 93.

The son of the late Enrico and Fernanda Nannini, Armand was born on Oct. 11, 1922 in Jersey City.

Armand was a Machinist for Union Carbide in Sterling Forest, and an Equipment Operator for Callahan Nannini Quarry in Salisbury Mills.

He honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S.  Army during WWII and took part in the Battle of the Bulge, the Normandy Invasion and the Liberation of France.  He was a member of Mountainville Engine Co. #3.

“Armand was a generous and supportive man,” his family said, “who brought humor and kindness to his family every day.  His three grandchildren and their spouses and seven great grandchildren were a huge part of his life and they brought him endless joy.  He spent countless hours sharing WWII memories, mowing grass, and rooting for the Yankees and Giants.  We are forever grateful for his kindness, compassion and sincerity.”

Armand was predeceased by his loving wife, Carmella Ruscitti Nannini.  He is survived by his son Robert A. Nannini, Sr. and his wife Leslie; his grandchildren, Robert, Jr. and his wife Noreen Nannini and their children Ryan and Macie, Jay and his wife Sarah Nannini and their children Oliver, Leo and Cooper, and Leigh Nannini Rivas and her husband Oscar and their children Ronin and Owen.  Armand was also predeceased by his brothers, Louis and Edward Nannini.

His family received,visitors on Sept. 27 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A  funeral service was held at the funeral home on Sept. 28.and was followed by  burial with military honors at St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall.
