Jeanne Roberts Hulse

February 13, 1921-May 11, 2016

Jeanne Roberts Hulse of Slingerlands, N.Y. died peacefully in her sleep on May 11. She was 95.

She was born Feb. 13, 1921 in Springfield Mass. to Arthur Clark Roberts and Lena May Scott. She moved to Cornwall as a child and graduated from Cornwall High School (on Willow Avenue) in 1939. She attended Pratt Institute in New York City before marrying Roger Lee Russell Jr. in 1942.

She returned to Cornwall in 1959. In 1970 she married Willard L. Hulse of Cornwall. They enjoyed playing golf and taking trips to Cape Cod, She also worked part-time for the Cornwall Library for many years.

She remained active in St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cornwall until she moved to Beverwyck Retirement Community in Slingerlands in 2011.

She was predeceased by her husband, Willard, a son, Roger “Lee” Russell III, and her brother John Roberts of West Suffield, Conn. She is survived by her three children — Sally Malik of Slingerlands, Ronald Russell of Colorado Springs, Col. and Linda Maguire of Schenectady, N.Y.; a stepson Willard J. Hulse of Cornwall; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and six nieces.

A brief memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. All are welcome.

Ann McDonald

June 14, 1920-June 17, 2016

Ann McDonald of Cornwall-on-Hudson, a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 17.

Ann was born 96 years ago in Vindex, Garrett County, Maryland to the late Joseph and Teressa Michalak on June 14, 1920.  Survivors include her loving family; Patricia McDonald DiPofi (husband, John) of Newburgh; granddaughter Ann Marie Crea (husband, Rocco) of Newburgh; grandson Gregory DiPofi (significant other, Sueann) of LaGrangeville; great grandchildren, Christine and Joseph Crea; many nieces and nephews; godchild, Donald Simpson and cousins.  Ann was predeceased by her husband, Frank McDonald, in 2011 and by her siblings, Freida Swinden, Mary Simpson, Teressa Menzie, Henry and John Michalak.

Ann’s family moved to Weston, W.V. shortly after her birth.  She graduated from Weston High School,  and married her late husband, Frank McDonald, on May 9, 1942 in St. Peters Catholic Church, Haverstraw.  She was a parishioner of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson and a member of Court Rita #264, Catholic Daughters of America.

Ann was an avid gardener, a member of the Cornwall Garden Club and a volunteer at Cornwall Hospital.  She loved playing golf and was a long time member of the Powelton Club (Ladies League) in Newburgh. Mom enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her family received vistors on June 21 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, June 21 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, and was followed by   entombment at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5468 Route 9W, Newburgh.
