Mary Foster

September 1, 1966-May 9, 2015

Mary Foster of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on May 9 at Westchester Medical Centerl. She was 49 years old.

The daughter of James and Margaret Scully, she was born in Cornwall on Sept. 1, 1966. She was a food service employee for the Cornwall Central School District.

Mary Foster is survived by her father James Scully,her  siblings Linda, Joanne, Trisha, Kevin, her husband Chris Foster, and her son Christopher Foster.

Her family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 15 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Arlene Levien

March 13, 1927-May 10, 2015

Arlene Levien, of Cornwall, a lifetime resident of the area, entered into rest on Sunday, May 10 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was 88.

Daughter of the late David and Ethel (Tulve) Smith, she was born March 13, 1927 in Newburgh. She married her late husband Fred Levien on October 9, 1948 at St. Francis. They were married for 55 years.

Arlene was a dedicated teacher of 25 years. She was a caring and loving mother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Arlene loved the beach, reading and traveling in her younger years.

Arlene was a parishioner of St. Thomas and St. Joseph Parish. She belonged to Catholic Daughters and was an avid tennis player. Arlene graduated from N.F.A. in 1944 and SUNY New Paltz in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in Education.

She is survived by her children: Beth Garland and husband Michael of Auburn, Mass., Patti Lark and husband Rich of New Windsor, Amy Walsh and husband Jim of Modena, N.Y., and David Levien and wife Donna of Middletown, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many close cousins and long-time friends.

Her family will receive visitors from 5-8 pm on Friday, May 15 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at St. Joseph’s Parish, New Windsor. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall.

Lydia-Lawrence Strawbridge

June 2, 1924-March 2, 2015

Lydia-Lawrence Strawbridge died at her home in Kittery, Me. on March 2.

The daughter of the late Frederic H. and Emily E. (Clothier) Strawbridge, she was born on June 2, 1924 in Philadelphia. She was educated at the Shipley School and at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts.

Lydia was an artist with a unique style of expression which depicted the symbolism of the unconscious mind. Her work was exhibited in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

She lived most of her life in Cornwall, where she trained and tracked with her champion German Shepherds. For many years she was president of the New Paltz Tracking Club.

Lydia moved to Kittery four years ago to be near her family. She is survived by her sisters Mary Schauffler of Kittery Point, Me. and Alexandra Smith of Coudersport, Penn., and eleven nephews and nieces.
