Candice E. Cullingham

June 10, 1954-April 7, 2014

Candice E. Cullingham , of New Windsor entered into eternal rest on April 7 at Mt. Dora, Fla. She was 59 years old.

The daughter of Curtis Remfrey and Bernice Baird Remfrey, Candice  was born on June 10, 1954 in Cornwall. She  was a clerk in Radiology  for Cornwall Hospital, and was an active member of the Cornwall United Methodist Church.

Candice is survived by her husband Russell  P. Cullingham  at home; her mother Bernice Remfrey of Cornwall; her son Jeremy Vesely of New Windsor; her daughter Jennifer Bediako of New Windsor; her step-daughter Lisa Repke of Marlboro; her sister Helene Tedder of Florence S.C., four nieces and nephews and six grandchildren . She was predeceased by her father, Curtis Remfrey, as well  as her brother Curtis Remfrey and her sister Claudia Cook.

The family received visitors at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Burial  was private .

Andrew James Maroney, Jr.

May 15, 1921-Monday, April 14

Andrew James Maroney, Jr. of Cornwall-on-Hudson entered into rest on Monday, April 14.  He was 92.

The son of Andrew James and Edith Johnston Maroney, he was born on May 15, 1921 in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Andrew served in the Navy during World War II. He retired from USMA West Point in 1976 after 34 years of service, lastly as Maintenance Officer.  He was a past commander and financial officer of American Legion Post 353.  He was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League for and a founding member of the Orange County Amateur Radio Club, serving as president and financial officer.

Andrew was a founding member and trustee of the Cornwall Historical Society.  He was on the organizing committee for the new Village bandstand and served as one of the bandstand trustees.  He was on the Village Board of Appeals, and served as an election inspector for many years.  He was also a part of several school growth planning committees.

Andrew married Jeanne T. Wenchel at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church on June 5, 1949, and they resided in the village for 64 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, cousin and friend, and he will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his beloved wife Jeanne, at home; son Andrew J. Maroney III and wife Mary Jo; daughter Barbara J. French and husband Richard; grandchildren: Andrew J. Maroney IV, Matthew P. Maroney, Donald A. French and Meghan L. French; and cousins: Joyce Normandin, Dennis Dunn, Jean Moroney Bouton, Sister Nancy Moroney, Kathleen Fanning and Dorothy Kane.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, April 22 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 23 at 10 a.m at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Charles Truhn

April 11, 2014

Charles  Truhn entered into eternal rest on Apr. 11 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital  in Newburgh. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday. Before retiring, Charles worked for the Colandrea GMC dealership. To have known him is to have loved him.

The son of the late Charles and Myrtle Truhn, Charles was born in Brooklyn.

He is survived by his loving wife Judith  of 54 years and his loving children Diana and Manny Desousa of New Windsor; Eric and Lisa Truhn of Marlboro; Carl and Dawn Truhn of Hackettstown, N.J.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Rachel and Jon Rosario, Charlie Desousa, Erica Truhn, Lauren , Karinna and Ryan Truhn, and great grandchildren: Jonathan  and Gabriel Rosario. Also part of his loving family circle are his sisters : Elizabeth McGill and Winifred and Robert Veracka.

The family received visitors at Quigley Bros Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson on April 15.  A service was held on April 16 at Christ Lutheran Church, in Newburgh with Pastor Ernst Mossel officiating. It was followed by burial at Orange County Veteran’s Cemetery in Goshen  with Military Honors.
