Sandra Burnham of Florham Park, N.J. passed away on Aug.4 at the age of 72. She was a former longtime resident of Cornwall-on-Hudson.

The daughter of the late Gus and Sally (Kanderas) Vlokas, she was born in Manhattan on May 26, 1945. She was a former social worker at the McQuade School in New Windsor.

Loretta Frances Fanning of Cornwall went to be with our Lord on Friday, July 28.

The daughter of the late John and Ella Schroff Kinsler, she was born on June 18, 1937 in Otisville.

Loretta graduated from Cornwall-on-Hudson High School, Westchester Community College and Hackensack Hospital School of Nursing.  She completed her BSN from Dominican College.  She practiced her nursing in Washington, D.C, and the Cornwall Hospital, finally retiring after 30 years from Keller Army Hospital in West Point.

Virginia Heepe

Virginia Heepe of Cornwall, passed away at home on July 17. She was 96 years old.

Virginia was born in New York City on Aug. 17, 1920 to Pasquale and Louise Tomasulo. She lived in Brooklyn for 43 years, where she married Charles Heepe and raised four children. She then settled in Seaford, N.Y. for the next 35 years before moving to Cornwall in 1999. She enjoyed living at Idlewild Creek Apartments and made many lasting friendships. She loved cooking and baking, and was known for her Italian specialties and pies.

Susan N. Bunte passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at her home in Highland Falls.  She was 70 years old.

Daughter of the late Max and Fannie Glusman Hirschberg, she was born June 14, 1947 in Newburgh.

Susan worked in the Military Pay & Finance Department at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and was a former employee in the finance office of the Village of Highland Falls.

John Arthur LaTerra of Locust Grove, Va., passed away after a long illness on March 14 at age 71. Born in Brooklyn on March 13, 1946, he was the younger of two sons born to Sicilian immigrants.

John was a member of the Cornwall Jaycees and organized the youth dances on the tennis courts during the summer of 1972. He was also the driving force behind the Black Rock Fish and Game Club’s Pheasant Preserve. John was a computer programmer in the final years of his career, but he was trained as a horticulturist and it was his true passion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Fredericksburg, Va.

Judith A. Blaine of Cornwall passed away peacefully  on July 1.  She was 79.

The only child of the late John and Annamae Giebler Steffens, she was born on Sept. 9, 1937 in Manhattan.

Judith moved to Cornwall in 1952 and graduated from Cornwall High School.  She retired after working as an executive secretary at Cornwall Hospital.  She was also a member and past president of Highland Engine Co. Auxiliary.  Judith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by many.

Patricia Agnes (Devitt) Kavanaugh

Patricia Agnes Devitt Kavanaugh passed away on Friday morning, June 23.  She was 86.  Born on March 19, 1931 in Montgomery to Agnes Frances (Flannery) and William J Devitt, she was married to the late William M. Kavanaugh.

Patricia is survived by four sons, William (Lisa) of Loganton, PA, Timothy of Cornwall, Michael (Kelli) of Newburgh, and Patrick (Brenda) of Suwanee GA; five grandchildren, Rordan, Logan, Jorja, Philip and Veronica; her sister, Barbara Mahoney of Tarrytown; brother, F. Edward Devitt of Montgomery; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  A brother, William Devitt, also predeceased her.

Shirley H. Komonchak passed away Wednesday, June 14, at Wingate at Beacon in Beacon.  She was 96 years old.

Daughter of the late Harold Herbert and the late Hilda Stromberg Herbert, she was born September 21, 1920 in Doodletown. Shirley was the widow of John J. (Jack) Komonchak.

She was a member of United Methodist Women of Highland Falls, 4 Paws Humane Society of Highland Falls, and a retired elementary school teacher with the Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery School District, where she taught for 29 years.

James Thomas Ebert, formerly of Cornwall, passed away in Long Beach, Calif. on April 28 after a brief battle with cancer.

A memorial service was held at Resurrection Church in Long Beach, and a private gravesite services is being held with the family.

Jimmy was passionate about serving his community especially being a voice for persons with disabilities. He served as Executive Director of Mid-Point Integrative Services, a non-profit dedicated to providing residency to displaced men and women.

Donna Ann Colombo, age 56, was a longtime resident of Highland Mills before moving to Ocala, Fla. in 2006. She passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 1. Donna was born on July 10, 1960, in Queens, New York to Dorothy Ward and Malcolm McEntee. She was one of three children.

Survivors include her son, James Skoufis and his wife Hillary; and her daughter, Melissa O’Neal and her husband Cory, who recently became parents to Donna’s grandson Colton. She is also survived by her partner Brian Eppinger; sister Janet DeLuca; and brother Robert McEntee.
