Doris Bushell, 92, a resident of Orange County died on Nov. 22 after a long illness.  The daughter of George and Bella Bushell, she was born in New York City on May 12, 1925.

After graduation from High School in the Bronx, Doris joined the US Naval Reserve in 1945 as Seaman First Class, serving in Indiana and Tennessee.  She was also the recipient of the Seaman First Class Victory Medal several years later.

Helen M. Contarino, of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest at home on Nov. 12 with her loving family by her side. She was 78 years old.

The daughter of the late Henry Govier and Helen (O’Regan) Govier, Helen was born on Sept. 24, 1939 in the borough of Manhattan.

Helen was retired after working as a National Credit Manager for Arrow Electronics in Purchase, N.Y.

Mildred Dyseven Gayton, 83 of Jacksonville, N.C. and formerly of Lake Harris Landing in Leesburg, FL. and Cornwall, N.Y., passed away Saturday evening at her home in Jacksonville.

Mildred worked for many years as a Leesburg Regional Medical Center Volunteer. She loved music, and especially enjoyed any and all musicals ranging from Broadway to local productions.

Chrystle M. Bonebrake Anderson, 76, wife of Howard “Andy” J. Anderson, of Summerville, SC passed away Sunday, Oct. 29.

Chrystle was born Nov. 25, 1940 in Cornwall, a daughter of Daniel Bonebrake and Marion Miller Bonebrake. She was raised in Highland Falls, where she graduated in 1958 from Highland Falls High School. After holding several positions throughout the 1960s, Chrystle married CWO Howard J. Anderson while at the University of Illinois/Urbana. She spent the next decade travelling the world with her husband, ending in Summerville, SC, where she chose to spend the rest of her life.

Esther Heffner, former longtime resident of Highland Falls,  passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. She was 88.

Daughter of the late Agnes Cox Woodruff and Robert Woodruff, she was born in Highland Falls on September 8, 1929. Esther was a  member of Highland Falls United Methodist Church and of O’Connor Doyle American Legion Post Ladies’ Auxiliary, both in Highland Falls.

She is survived by her daughter Gloria Bradham of Mebane, NC; two grandchildren, James Kuhn and Angela Carriero; and five great-grandchildren, Destiny, Liesl, Esther, Landon and Elinor.

She was a retired Data Processor for St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall, and a member of the Highland Engine Ladies Auxiliary.

Carolyn graduated from Girls High and then earned her Baccalaureate in Artibus from Temple University. She retired from International Paper in West Nyack, where she was a Developmental Chemist.

Colonel (retired) George “Pete” Hannan,  81, a resident of Annapolis for 30 years, died Friday, Sept. 29 in his home.

He was born Aug. 30, 1936 in Newburgh to the late George and Ida Hannan.

Pete graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1959. He served honorably in the US Air Force with distinction in the 39th Air Search and Rescue Squadron while in Vietnam. He retired after 28 years of service.  He proudly earned the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with two Service Stars.
